The government was understandably relieved when Anna Hazare declared tonight that he would break his 12-day fast tomorrow after he received a formal letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informing him about the agreement in Parliament on his three demands.

MAR Abdullah appears far more in command as chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, India's most volatile state, than he did last year. Already midway through his term, Abdullah can look back to the summer of 2011 with some satisfaction. The Valley is calm and incidents of unrest have been rare as compared to last year's stone-throwing anarchy. He spoke at length to Raj Chengappa, Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune Group of Newspapers at his well-guarded house in Srinagar recently.

Bail for Nirmal Yadav in cash-at-judge’s-door scam

Former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Nirmal Yadav was today granted bail by a special CBI court here in the 2008 cash-at-judge’s-door scam. Nirmal Yadav personally appeared before the trial court judge in the district courts complex following a direction by the Punjab and Haryana HC.

Bangalore, August 27
The Lokayukta Special Court granted exemption to former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa from personal appearance for today but made it clear that he would have to appear before it on August 29 in compliance with a summon to him on a private complaint over his alleged involvement in land scams in Karnataka.
