Tahawwur Rana, a Chicago-based Pakistani native, was acquitted on Thursday by a US jury of conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorists who attacked Mumbai in November of 2008. More than 160 persons, including six Americans, were killed in that attack.

Ending days of uncertainty, the DMK today decided not to pull out of the UPA Government over the 2G Spectrum scam, but accused the CBI of adopting “ double standards” by arresting party MP Kanimozhi in the case.Kanimozhi, daughter of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and a shareholder in Kalaignar TV with a 20 per cent stake, has challenged the HC order. Emerging out of a nearly two-hour meeting, DMK chief M Karunanidhi said he has nothing against the Congress.

The 551-year-old Naggar Castle and the 120-year-old plush 75-acre Palace Hotel, Chail, will soon be on the national and international heritage tourist circuit.A seven-member heritage committee of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has given in-principle approval for declaring these as “heritage buildings of national importance”.

CHAIL PALACE: was built by the then Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh, after the British insulted him. At 2,226 m above sea level, the palace stands at an altitude higher than that of Shimla. NAGGAR CASTLE: was built by the then king of Kullu, Sidh Singh, in 1460 in the pahari Kathkuni architectural style. It was given to the British in exchange of a gun by one of his hunting-loving successors.
