Manpreet sacked as Punjab Finance Minister

Chandigarh, October 13
A day after being suspended from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal was today sacked from the SAD-BJP ministry headed by his uncle Parkash Singh Badal following differences within the alliance over a reported debt waiver offer from the Centre.

Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal was today suspended from the party soon after the disciplinary committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal made a recommendation to this effect to the party president.

Goalkeeper Bharat Chhetri carried India through to the gold medal match after  home team, trailing 1-3, made a splendid recovery to take the game to penalties with 3-3 deadlock remaining unresolved even after 15 minutes of extra time at the historic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here tonight.

The UN General Assembly on Tuesday elected India, Germany, South Africa and Colombia to two-year seats on the UN Security Council while Canada and Portugal went to a second round of voting. Jagtar Singh HawaraJagtar Singh Hawara has escaped the gallows, but it is death for Balwant Singh in the Beant Singh assassination case. A Babbar Khalsa International activist, Hawara has been branded as an “organiser of a heinous crime”, but the death penalty awarded to him by the trial court in Punjab’s then Chief Minister Beant Singh’s assassination case has been commuted to life sentence. He will remain behind bars till his last.
