Special Games from Nov 12:
The 13th Special Games for the differently abled children of Punjab would jointly be organised by the Asha Deep Welfare Society and the District Special Olympics Association at the local Police Lines ground from November 12 to 14. According to a press release by the Asha Kiran Special School for Special Children, Jahan Khelan, about 400 children from 33 schools of Punjab would participate in this three-day event.

Chocolate shakes:
Cad-B, the chain of retail outlets of thick chocolate shakes and other varieties, has launched its 52nd outlet on the Lovely Professional University campus here.The products of Pune-based AP Confectionery Pvt Ltd (APCL) consist of chocolate imported from the African continent and contain no hydrogenated oil chocolates, claimed Malhi Foods, the partners of the APCL in Punjab.

Medical camp: As many as 275 persons were examined on the second day of the medical check-up camp organised during the week-long “Swasthya Suraksha Saptah” by the District Congress Committee here. Various medical tests were performed and medicine were distributed free of cost among all needy patients.

Pathankot
PO arrested:
The police nabbed a proclaimed offender, Manohar Singh, resident of Kanwa, on Monday. According to the police, a case under Sections 24, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act was registered against him at Division 1 police station on July 19, 2005. He had been evading arrest for the past five years. He was produced before the Magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody.

Phagwara
City Club poll pass off peacefully:
The elections of the local City Club were conducted peacefully here. Returning Officer-cum-Executive Officer of the Phagwara Nagar Council Sandeep Tiwari announced the results on Sunday evening. Mahinder Paul Sharma defeated Ashok Prashar for the post of junior vice-president. Rakesh Ohri was elected secretary defeating Sharanpal Kalra. Rakesh Goyal was elected cashier by defeating Rewati Tiwari. It may be mentioned here that Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala Raj Kamal Chaudhary and Phagwara SDM Amarjit Pal are working as president and senior vice-president of the City Club, respectively.

BJP Legal Cell: Local advocate Lokesh Narang has been appointed state general secretary of the Punjab BJP Legal Cell. This was announced by cell convener R.P. Dhir here on Saturday. Dhir said the state body would be announced within a month.

Samrala
Body recovered from village pond:
The body of a woman was recovered from the pond of Balion village. According to information, the woman was identified as Karamjit Kaur (40), a widow of the village. The cause of her death could not be confirmed as yet, but some residents of the village were of the view that she was mentally upset and might have slipped in the village pond. The police is inquiring into the matter.

Tarn Taran
One held with stolen motorcycle:
Rajwinder Singh of Sarhali, 22 km from here, was nabbed by the police with a stolen motorcycle. A case under sections 379 and 411, IPC, has been registered against the accused. Sources said the motorcycle was without a numberplate and had been stolen from a nearby village.

PU former VC awarded: The Indian National Science Academy has offered INSA Senior Scientist position to KN Pathak, former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University. The position carries an honorarium of Rs 20,000 per month and contingency of Rs 50,000 per annum. The position has been offered to him with effect from January 1, 2011, and term of the senior scientist is for three years.
