Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today came to soothe tensions and meet persons injured in Saturday blasts here, but Ahmedabad was still nursing its wounds, two days after 50 persons were killed in a series of 21 carefully choreographed bombings.

Blasts were carried out in BJP leaders’ constituencies: Reports
New Delhi, July 28
Even as investigators have indicated that the needle of suspicion for the Saturday’s blast in Ahmedabad is pointing towards the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), the political message is unravelling now. The blasts were carried out in the constituencies of the frontline BJP leaders, including that of Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Assam sounds red alert after blasts
Guwahati, July 28
High alert has been sounded in Assam in the wake of serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad triggered by suspected Islamic militants. All DSPs in the state have been instructed to gear up vigil in all vulnerable places to thwart any design by the ultras to create terror.

14 sacked Pak judges to be restored
Chief Justice of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar has given his approval for the restoration of 14 sacked judges of the Lahore High Court and Sindh High Court and sent a list of these judges to President Pervez Musharraf for final approval, a private television channel has reported here. According to Aaj TV, eight of the 14 judges to be restored are from the Sindh High Court while six are from the Lahore High Court.

Amarnath land row protests continue in Jammu, 10 hurt
Jammu, July 28
Violent clashes continued in the city today, leaving at least 10 persons, including three policemen, injured. A strong mob took to the streets in Muthi, on the city outskirts, in the morning and pelted stones at the police. In retaliation, the police lathicharged and fired tear gas shells to disperse the agitating crowd. The protesters set ablaze a police vehicle. The driver managed to escape unhurt.

An Army personnel was killed when a group of 10-12 Pakistan army personnel fired upon them after crossing over the LoC in Leepa area of Nowgam sector in Kupwara district today. A defence spokesman said here that the troops retaliated forcing the Pakistan personnel to return.
