Three dead as truck hits car
Jalandhar, December 11
Three persons were killed and four injured as the Scorpio in which they were traveling collided with a truck near Kharal Kalan village, that falls under the Bhogpur police station, last night. The deceased have been identified as Renu Bala, Sunita and Harish Kumar whereas the injured are Avi, Daulat Ram, Ram Lubaya and Neeru.

Youth held for brother’s murder
Batala, December 11
The police has claimed to have solved the murder of Prem Singh, a resident of Villa Teja village, with the arrest of his brother Jasbir Singh and latter’s friend Harjinder Singh.

2 doctors held for negligence
Hoshiarpur, December 11
Deepak Kumar (21), son of Satpal of the local Mohalla Khushirdpura, died at Narindra Hospital, Mukerian, about 55 km from here, last night, allegedly due to medical negligence.

Three dead as truck hits car

Jalandhar, December 11
Three persons were killed and four injured as the Scorpio in which they were traveling collided with a truck near Kharal Kalan village, that falls under the Bhogpur police station, last night.

The deceased have been identified as Renu Bala, Sunita and Harish Kumar whereas the injured are Avi, Daulat Ram, Ram Lubaya and Neeru.

Bhogpur SHO Rajendra Kumar said the persons involved in the accident were on their way to Ludhiana from Narangpur Katte village in Deenanagar of Gurdaspur district to participate in a marriage. Suresh Kumar was driving the vehicle.

The bodies were sent to the Civil Hospital here for postmortem. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

A case against the driver of the truck has been registered.

Youth held for brother’s murder

Batala, December 11
The police has claimed to have solved the murder of Prem Singh, a resident of Villa Teja village, with the arrest of his brother Jasbir Singh and latter’s friend Harjinder Singh. The SSP, Mr L.K. Yadav, said illicit relations between the wife and brother of Prem Singh was the motive behind the murder.

The body of Prem Singh was found in the fields near his house. The police said Jasbir, younger brother of Prem, had illicit relations with his sister-in-law. Jasbir conspired to kill his elder brother with his friend Harjinder.

When the wife of Prem went to visit her parents, both Jasbir Singh and Harjinder killed him with sharp weapons and threw the dead body in the fields.

The police has recovered the weapons that were used in the murder.

Woman’s body found in canal

Hoshiarpur : The body of Rani Devi, wife of Janak Raj of Badiala village, was found in the Mukerian canal at Power House Gate No. 2 last evening.

According to police sources, Rani fell into the canal while she was on a stroll in the morning. — OC

2 doctors held for negligence

Hoshiarpur, December 11
Deepak Kumar (21), son of Satpal of the local Mohalla Khushirdpura, died at Narindra Hospital, Mukerian, about 55 km from here, last night, allegedly due to medical negligence.

According to police sources, the police has arrested the owner of the hospital, Dr Narinder Kumar Gupta, and his son, Dr Rajat Kumar Gupta, under Section 304 of the IPC.

Deepak was admitted to the hospital following some skin problem. The doctors allegedly administrated some injections to him after which he died suddenly. A huge mob assembled in the hospital and staged a demonstration there. The mob smashed the window panes at the hospital with stones.

After the postmortem, Deepak was cremated today.

Akul Gandhi of Pathankot will led the Gurdaspur district under-16 cricket team in the Punjab State Inter-District U/16 Cricket Championship. The other players are: Paramveer Matoo, Maninder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Sandeep, Dikshant, Harsh Kumar, Tuskar, Rakesh Kumar, Novjot Singh, Harman Preet Singh, Mohkam Singh, Sat Surmukh Singh and Daman Deep Singh. — OC

Conference on English concludes

A two-day conference on “Improving spoken English in rural Punjab”, organised by Amardeep Singh Shergill Memorial College, Mukandpur, near here, concluded today.
It was sponsored by Mr S.S. Dhindsa, an NRI, in collaboration with McMillan India Ltd. Mr Kanwarjit Singh, DPI (Colleges), was the chief guest.
