CM in land scam, allege BJP leaders
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, December 10
The Punjab unit of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, was involved in a Rs. 129 lakh crore scam, which, had its roots in the Mega Project aimed at development of Mohali township and creation of 38 new sectors and six new pockets on 12000 acres.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Vijay Sampla and Mr. Satpal Saini, the General Secretary of the Punjab BJP and a former minister, respectively, said that PUDA had fixed land acquistion price ranging from Rs. 9.5 to Rs. 10 lakhs per acre for acquiring land from farmers under the Land Acquisition, Act 1884 for the mega project. The development cost was around Rs. 7 to 15 lakhs per acre and hence the total cost of PUDA on an acre was at around Rs. 25 lakh. On the other hand, the sale price was around Rs. 11 crores per acre.

Mr. Sampla and Mr. Saini said that if the entire project is handled by PUDA, it could fetch a profit to the tune of Rs. 129 lakh crores even if the the market price of real estate for the year 2003-2004 was taken into consideration. However, by handing over the entire development of 12000 acres to private construction companies, PUDA would get just Rs. 6360 crores. If various fees and cost of external development was taken out, the PUDA profit would plummet to a mere Rs. 3120 crores.

So, Captain Amarinder Singh, instead of bringing the entire amount of Rs. 129 lakh crores to the state exchequer, “scammed the entire amount in connivance with Dubai -based EMAAR-MGF Land Private Limited and other such players and private builders by allowing them to acquire this prime land at throwaway prices from farmers.” The MOU signed by the Captain Amarinder Singh -led government has exposed secret of Captain Amarinder Singh’s frequent suspicious vistis to Dubai. There are so many questions which, raise eye-brows. Why the MOU was signed with a Dubai based company? Why the entire project is not taken by PUDA and other such government organisations known for such projects? We demand a CBI probe into the deal,” said Mr. Sampla and Mr. Saini.

Badal backs Navjot : Singla raises moral issues
Tribune News Service

Jalandhar, December 10
The Punjab Finance and Health minister ,Mr. Surinder Singla ,has questionedthe moral ground of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) chief ,Mr. Parkash Singh Badal ,and his son, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal ,of declaring a convicted Navjot Sidhu a “star campaigner” of the SAD-BJP combine.

He has urged the Supreme Court to observe the behaviour of Mr. Sidhu and the “way he was belittling the death of a human being.” Interestingly, Mr. Singla revealed that it was Mr. Badal and his government, which, had decided to file an appeal in 1999 against the acquittal of Mr. Sidhu in the higher court.

“Mr. Navjot Sidhu has been forced to resign as an MP by the BJP after he was convicted by the court. Then how can a convicted person be projected as a ‘star campaigner’ by a political party? Can Mr. Badal explain whether it is morally right to project Mr. Sidhu as his party’s star campaigner, when the SAD’s alliance partner ,the BJP has forced him to resign. Is it not a case of double standards, especially, from moral point of view?” questioned Mr. Singla.

Mr. Singla said it was “all the more shameful on part of Mr. Sidhu that he has not regretted the death of the person. Neither he has shown any sympathy with the family of deceased Gurnam Singh. “Should he not come forward and appoligise for his act?
