Jalandhar, December 9 The father, Kamal Kishore, said that the Supreme Court should have restored the death sentence awarded by the District Sessions Judge, Jalandhar. Kamal’s wife Vimla and his father Madan Lal endorsed his statement by the nodding their heads. He said that he would write to the President so that the killers got death sentence . The mutilated bodies of Heena and Abhishek were found in a gunny bag in June, six years ago. |

The police has registered a case under Sections 4 and 5 of the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Scheme (Banking) Act, 1978, and Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against a woman of Bassi Khawaju and Bishan Dass of Sacha village last evening. According to police sources, Ms Sarabjit Kaur Banga of the local Mohalla New Jagatpura had lodged a complaint against the suspects, who run a tailor shop in Bassi Khawaju. Traffic diversion
In view of the Congress Vikas Yatra passing through Hoshiarpur district on December 11 and 12, the police has diverted traffic on certain roads. The traffic from the Una-Nangal side would be diverted from Bajwara Adda to Shimla Pahari-Dhobighat-Shiraz Hotel to bus stand. For Una-Nangal, it would be diverted through the Shiraz Hotel road on Bhangi Choe to Bajwara Adda. Traffic from Hoshiarpur to Chandigarh would take the bus stand-Prabhat Chowk-Piplanwala-Purhiran-Mehtiana-Phagwara route. The traffic coming from the Jalandhar side would be diverted to the Kathar-Sham Chaurasi-Dosarka-bus stand route. At the time of the entry of the yatra in Hoshiarpur city, traffic coming from the Phagwara side would be diverted to the Shergarh Chowk-Bajwara Adda-Shimla Pahari Chowk-Dhobighat-Shiraz Hotel-bus stand road. The police said traffic coming from Balachaur, Phagwara, Tanda, Dasuya, Chintpurni and Una would be blocked at the time of the entry of the yatra in the city. The traffic on the Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Banga, Behram, Phagwara roads would be diverted to Jalandhar. On December 12, outgoing and incoming traffic from Jalandhar after 9 am would be diverted to bus stand via Kamalpur Chowk-Clock Tower

Man found murdered
Jalandhar, December 9 His disfigured body was found in the fields of Sarpanch Chaman Lal. The police sent the body to the Civil Hospital, Jalandhar, for postmortem. The police had difficulty in identifying the body as the skin on the face and head had been removed. Members of the Baldev’s family identified the body from his clothes. Aadampur SHO Nirmal Singh said an FIR under Section 302 had been registered. The police was working on different angles in the case, he added. |

Nawanshahr, December 9 In semifinal matches played today, JCT Club, Phagwara, beat RCF, Kapurthala, 2-0. Skattar Singh scored both goals. JCT Academy, Phagwara, beat Football Club, Chandigarh, 1-0. Goldy scored the lone goal in the 5th minute of the match. Earlier in the quarterfinal matches, JCT, Phagwara, beat PSEB, Hoshiarpur, and Football Academy, Chandigarh, beat Sikh National Sporting Club, Banga, in close contests on Friday to enter into the semifinal . In the first match played between JCT, Phagwara, and PSEB, Hoshiarpur, no team could score a goal in the first half of the match. Skatar Singh of JCT scored a goal a goal in the second half. In the match played between Football Academy, Chandigarh, and Sikh National Sporting Club, Banga, Pawan Kumar of Chandigarh scored the lone goal of the match in the fag end to clinch the thrilling win. Pathankot, December 9 Sixtynine couples tied the knot. They were gifted household appliances and other essential items. Mr Puri, who runs the Agyawati Des Raj Puri Charitable Trust for the needy, said all 69 couples would be given Rs15,000 each under the Ashirwad Scheme of the Punjab Government. |
Impressions of life
Jalandhar, December 9 The workshop began yesterday with a discourse from
Prem Singh, a renowned painter and former principal of Government College of Art, Chandigarh. He favoured painting the impression of the subject to copying. The artist took the students out in the college lawns and asked them to paint impression of the life around them. During the workshop, that concluded today, Prem Singh helped the students with suggestions on strokes. An exhibition of paintings of C.L. Sharma was also put up today afternoon. |

Mobile dealers demand more commission
Jalandhar, December 9 Irked dealers also burnt posters of the said companies and they have decided not to issue new mobile phone connections and recharge coupons from today. Mobile phone connection and recharge coupon dealers have been demanding a hike in the commission given to them by the mobile companies on the sale of new connections and on recharge coupons. Mr. Lakhwinder Singh, a dealer ,said that the mobile phone service companies were giving them commission at the rate of 3 per cent, but this needed to be hiked. |
