Pedestrian killed:
Pargat Singh of Mullanpur village was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle on G.T. Road, Mullanpur, on Friday. The Dakha police has registered a case under Section 304-A of the IPC on the complaint of Devinder Singh of the same village.

Minor kidnapped: The Raikot police has registered a case under Section 364 of the IPC against Gurbax Singh of Littran village on the charge of kidnapping Balwinder Singh alias Soni (14) of Andloo village with an intention to kill him on November 23. The case has been registered on the complaint of his father Karamjit Singh after 15 days.

In-laws booked: The local police has registered a case under Sections 406, 498-A, 506 and 34 of the IPC against Amit Verma, Suresh Chander, Daljit Verma and Nirmal Singh of Shivalik Avenue, New Nangal, on the charge of demanding dowry from Puja of Geeta Colony, Jagraon, and for subjecting her to cruelty since her marriage with Amit Verma.

Property stolen: One 6.5 HP lister engine was stolen from the fields of Harbans Singh of Chowki Mann village on the night of November 26. A case has been registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code. But the police has not been able to trace out the thieves so far.

PATIALA
Punjabi prose revisited:
A two day seminar on the theme of `Re-evaluation of Punjabi Prose in 20th century' concluded at the Punjabi University's syndicate hall, here, on Saturday. Dr Satish K.Verma, Head of the Punjabi department, said journalism has provided a ground for Punjabi prose to be read. Thirteen papers were presented by eminent Punjabi scholars in the two-day seminar.

SAMRALA
Appointed:
Mr Achhar Singh Gill, Sarpanch of Chehalan village, 5 km from here, has been appointed as the general secretary of the Block Congress Committee, Samrala, by Mr Ajmer Singh Purba, president. The appointment has been welcomed by the residents.

Promoted:Mr Darshan Kumar, Assistant Food Supplies Officer, Samrala, has been promoted as the District Foods Supplies Officer. The station of posting has not been announced yet.

sonia’s Birthday celebrated: The activists of Youth Congress, celebrated the 60th birthday of Ms Sonia Gandhi, the chairperson of the UPA, here, on Saturday. The activists also distributed sweets and books to the residents of Ashiana in Sector 16. Tarun Bhandari, the vice-president of the Haryana Youth Congress, said all activists must follow the path of sacrifice portrayed by their leader.
