New Delhi, July 16
Al Qaida is training Kashmiri militants to undertake terrorist attacks in the Valley, according to a document available with UNI.The document, a letter written by one Mian Zulfiqar Adil Rehmani on the letterhead of ‘Harkat-Ul-Jehad-El-Islami’ (Mujahideen-e-Markaz Irshad) to one Haji Enayatur Rehman, undergoing training under the ‘Amir’, asks him to consider himself fortunate for being under the ‘Amir.’
The letter, dated March 19, 2006, and written in Urdu, says he (the trainee) is lucky that he is fighting for Islam’s supremacy and that he is following the orders of the ‘Amir’. Following the orders of the ‘Amir means that he is following the orders of Allah, the letter says.
The letterhead which has the name of the organisation written in English on the left side with the picture of a gun in the background, has the name written on the right in Urdu language with some grandes in the background.
The letter ends with a couplet exhorting the trainee to strive and not compromise until the objective is achieved.
Another document lists arms and ammunition, including AK rifles and Kalashnikov’s.
The document confirms Al Qaida claims that the outfit has indeed set shop in Kashmir. A man who identified himself as Abu al-Hadeed had called up some media offices in Srinagar last week and said the terrorist outfit had set up a wing in Kashmir.
The caller said whoever had carried out the attacks in Mumbai, “we express our gratitude and happiness.” The caller claimed that Osama bin Laden had appointed one Abu Abdul Rehman Ansari as his J&K chief, and added that the group would be known as J&K Al Qaida.
In a related development, four Kashmiri youths were arrested in the frontier district of Kupwara while trying to cross over to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) for receiving arms training.
