25 Congress workers join SAD
Ludhiana, July 16
Shiromani Akali Dal today got a boost when about 25 Congress workers led by Mr Jeevan Dhawan, a former general secretary of the District Congress Committee and the general secretary of the Satluj Club, joined the party in presence of the president and former Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal.

The Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, today stressed the need for massive tree plantation by city residents in the wake of alarming level of environmental pollution in the industrial hub of the state.

New MC chief to focus on development

The newly elected chief of the Municipal Council is planning to launch various development schemes in the town. Talking to Ludhiana Tribune, Ms Harnam Kaur, council chief, said she would try to improve the condition of water supply, sewerage, roads and streetlights in the town apart from ensuring a hygienic and clean atmosphere.

Members of the Rashtriya Janhit Party today held a procession against terrorist attacks in various parts of the country. The march was led by party president Nassen Ansari. The protesters also burnt an effigy of terrorism at Basti Jodhewal Chowk. Addressing the protesters, Mr Ansari condemned the Mumbai blasts, in which over 200 innocent persons were killed.

Migrant labourer held for murder

The Sudhar police has arrested a migrant labourer of Jhuggi Colony Sarabha village, who along with his accomplice had been booked under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC for allegedly murdering another migrant labourer a week ago.

2 co-op bank officials reinstated

Central Cooperative Bank, Sangrur, chairman Jarnail Singh Baurhai and vice-chairman Sukhjinder Singh, who had earlier been suspended by the Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies for allegedly acting in a manner prejudicial to the working of the institutions causing loss of Rs 1 crore every year, have been reinstated.
