Fire at 3-star hotel
: A portion of three-star Mohan International Hotel situated on Albert Road caught fire on Wednesday night. However, there was no report of life in the accidental fire. Mr Tarlochan Singh, Fire Officer, Municipal Corporation, said they got information of the fire about 3 a.m. after which five fire engines were rushed to the spot.

2 die as truck overturns
: Hukam Singh (55) and Kiranpal (44) died on the spot in the wee hours of Wednesday when the truck in which they were travelling overturned at Handiaya Chowk. The deceased belonged to Sharanpur.

: Amar Singh of Totiwal PS Sultan Pur, a proclaimed offender, was arrested by Sudhar police while he along with his accomplice was undergoing imprisonment in a narcotics case and had come out on parole. According to the information, Amar Singh was declared proclaimed offender in the case registered against him at Abohar and Sultanpur.

Objections on voters’ list: According to instructions given by Chief Election Commission, Panjab, Mr Sukhwinder Singh Gill, the electrol registration officer, informed that inspection objections and applications have been invited on the amended list of voters up to July 3 and the same will be entertained with regard to villages in the tehsil office, Sidhwanbet and Jagraon, in the office of executive officer, Nagar Council, Jagraon. The same will be decided on July 24 and the final publication will be made on August 31.

Raids on medicos’ residences: A team of Health Department officials led by Civil Surgeon Varinder Singh Mohi raided the residences of various medicos serving in the Civil Hospital of the town on Tuesday. The team found four pregnant women admitted by Staff Nurse Charanjit Kaur at her residence in Jaspal Colony.

Man commits suicide: Ranjit Singh (42), a resident of the town, committed suicide by hanging himself with a girder on Tuesday. The wife of the deceased told the police that her husband had been depressed for the past about two years after their son was killed by their neighbour.

DC holds meeting: Mr Jaspal Singh, Deputy Commissioner, held a meeting of district heads of department to have first-hand information about their functioning and collected information regarding the progress of development works being done in the district.

Farmers resent raids
: Farmers resenting the raids by the vigilance wing of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam on Tuesday gathered in the local Kuldip Resort to decide their future course of action. The farmers had blocked the Rattia road here against the raids last week and had lifted the blockage only after the officials of the Nigam assured that the penalties imposed on them would be waived.

Sarpanch suspended: The Deputy Commissioner has suspended the sarpanch of Bhusali village on charges of misappropriation of funds. Source said Satwanti had allegedly siphoned off over Rs 33000 from the funds allocated for village development. Though the administration had served a show cause notice on her, she failed to give a satisfactory reply to the allegations.

2 killed in car mishap: Newly married youth Kapil Kumar and his friend Rohit Kumar, both residents of Gazi Gopalpur village, near Kosli, were killed, while two other occupants, Ajay Kumar and Vipin Kumar, both cousins of Kapil Kumar, were injured when their Indica car first struck against the milestone and then a tree near Gugodh village, about 30 km from here, on Tuesday. The mishap occurred when they were going from Gazi Gopalpur to Kosli station.

2 cycle thieves held: On a tip-off the Bawal police conducted a raid on Monday and arrested two persons, Bijender and Narender, both residents of Jaisinghpur Khera village, about 20 km from here, and recovered 10 stolen bicycles from their possession. During interrogation they revealed that they had stolen the cycles from various parts of the Rewari region. The police has registered a case under Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC against them.
