Within 24 hours of the release of the computer-generated sketches of the two Varanasi blast suspects, eight persons were detained in Hardoi district this evening for questioning. Two of them resemble the men in the sketches confirmed SP Hardoi Kashinath Singh.

Speaking to TNS the SP of Hardoi said following a tip off they arrested these men from a house were they had been staying under false names. They claimed to be traders in spectacles, but their names and addresses were all fictitious.

According to Singh they were taken into police custody around 5 in the evening and only after sustained interrogation would it be possible to say if they were in any way associated with the Varanasi blasts.

DGP Yashpal Singh today announced an award of Rs 1 lakh to anyone providing substantive clues leading to the arrest of the terrorists.
