Hooda warns against false promises
Karnal, December 30 Mr Hooda said the people had understood the gimmicks of such political parties and their leaders had no future. He said efforts would be made to provide employment to all and government jobs would be given on the basis of merit. The Chief Minister said honest persons like Mr Raghubir Singh Virk and Mr Ram Saran Bhola had been made members of the Staff Selection Commission to ensure employment on the basis of merit only. He assured the people that all promises made to them would be fulfilled. Thanking the people of Assandh Assembly constituency for making victorious the candidate of the Congress in last Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Minister said this area of Assandh had remained backward but now it would be developed. Mr Hooda said non-Congress MLAs had been getting elected from this constituency for the past 39 years but they had not done any welfare to the people of the area. He sanctioned Rs. 1.61 crore for drinking water and sewerage. He also announced several developmental programmes for the area that included setting up of a government college, ITI or Polytechnic provided suitable land would be made available for the same. The girls high school would be upgraded up to 10+2 provided it fulfilled its norms. A mini-secretariat would be set up to bring all government offices under one-roof. While responding to the demand of the people of the area, he said that efforts would be made to set up a sugar mill. He also announced to improve availability of power. Others who also spoke on the occasion included Working President of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, Dr Ram Prakash, the Education Minister, Mr Phool Chand Mullana, and Member of Parliament from Karnal Mr Arvind Sharma. |
State govt mulls cash for no to paddy
Hisar, December 30 If implemented, the scheme will cover only those farmers who are using tubewells for irrigating paddy crop. Moreover, the farmers availing themselves of the benefit under the proposed scheme would not be allowed to give water from their tubewells to any other person for paddy irrigation. There would be no pending tubewell connection cases by March 31. This was stated by Mr R.N. Parashar, Financial Commissioner-cum-Principal Secretary (Power), Haryana, while talking to newsmen here today. He was in the city to participate in a seminar on improving power availability by switching over from paddy to other crops. The seminar was organised jointly by the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) and the Directorates of Research and Extension Education of Haryana Agricultural University here. Due to continuing increase in the area under paddy cultivation in the state, excessive water was being used, causing a decline in the water table, he added. The Managing Director of the DHBVN, Mr Vijayender Kumar, the Director of Extension Education at HAU, Dr R.K. Malik, and experts from different parts of the region also addressed the participants. It was also pointed out at the seminar that if the area under paddy cultivation could be reduced by 25 per cent, nearly 1 crore units of power could be saved in the state during the kharif season. Mr Parashar said of the total 113 blocks of Haryana, 55 had been declared “dark” due to over exploitation of water resources. “Apart from leading to decline in soil productivity, power consumption had also increased substantially due to the use of tubewells in irrigating paddy,” he asserted. The Principal Secretary said keeping these factors in mind, crop diversification was the need of the hour. To encourage farmers to switch over to other crops, the state government had mooted this proposal, he added. |
Haryana to buy power from Gujarat, Kerala boards
Panchkula, December 30 Official sources in the Haryana Power Generation Corporation (HPGC) informed TNS that bilateral arrangements had been made by the state power utilities for purchasing 100 MW of power each from the Gujarat and Kerala state electricity boards. As against a demand of 600 - 650 lakh units (LUs) a day, the state is getting 530- 560 LUs of power. With a 110-MW unit at the Tau Devi Lal Thermal Power Plant in Panipat having developed a technical snag after the Northern Grid failure on December 23, and the seventh unit (of 250 MW) in Panipat under repair, the state was facing a severe power crisis. One unit in Faridabad (50 MW), too, was out of order and was synchronised only today. Though the state power utilities had made arrangements to get 100 LUs of power from various sources like the Power Trading Corporation (PTC), National Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN), Delhi Transmission Limited (DTL), Reliance and Adani, for the month of December, unavailability of corridors for power transmission led to a severe power crisis. As compared to 100 LUs that Haryana should have got, it got only 30 - 35 LUs on an average each day. Also, because of the low frequency, the state could not overdraw power from the Northern Grid. Officials say that throughout this month, the frequency has been less than 49 hertz, because of which they could not overdraw more than 8 LUs. Last year, in December, the state was overdrawing 22 LUs of power. The power generation at Faridabad Gas, too, was affected because of the shortfall in gas supply to the plant. As a result, power restrictions had to be imposed on all categories of consumers in the state. For the past fortnight, power cuts were imposed on rural domestic, urban and industrial consumers, with severe power restrictions like 10- 15 hour cuts being imposed on the industry. The agriculture sector was getting an assured supply of six to eight hours a day. Ms Jyoti Arora, Managing Director, HPGC, informed TNS that the thermal unit in Faridabad had been synchronised today, while the 110 MW unit in Panipat would be repaired and become operational by tomorrow. The seventh unit (of 250 MW) in Panipat, which is under repair, too, was likely to be operational by mid-January, she added. |
Anti-employee policies decried
Fatehabad, December 30 While addressing workers, Mr Ram Diya Bhardwaj, state president, and Mr Satish Kumar Sethi, state secretary of the HEMSA, said their association had made several appeals to the authorities concerned for the redressal of their grievances. But the Director-General, Education, and the Education Minister, had not paid heed to their demands. They alleged that the posts of clerk were being abolished in the Education Department in the name of reforms. Several posts of assistants and superintendents had been lying vacant since long. They demanded immediate filling of the vacant posts through promotions and revival of the abolished posts. Talking to media persons, Mr Gulab Singh Bokhar, president, and Mr Budh Ram, secretary of the district unit of the HEMSA, said the department had been exploiting the clerical staff working in schools and offices. They alleged that the department had not released their increments for years in the name of typing tests. They said the seniority list of the department had not been made for the past 26 years. They further alleged that 102 posts of assistants, 26 of statistics assistants, 27 of deputy-superintendents, and 28 posts of superintendents had been lying vacant but the department had not been filling these posts through promotions. The union leaders alleged that the Haryana Government had recently abolished several posts of clerk in the department by merging the primary and secondary education in the name of reforms. They said their association was ready to cooperate with the government in case it was interested in the reforms. However, it would not tolerate the exploitation of its members in the name of reforms. |
HUDA to develop new areas

With the implementation of augmentation of water supply scheme in Faridabad, Phase II, the supply of water will be increased by another 10 million gallon daily (MGD), by tapping ground water in Yamuna flood plains. Under this project, two Ranney wells, 16 tubewells, pumping machinery for tubewells as well as water works will be installed. Also, 10 km- long main line for tubewells and Ranney wells and boosting stations alongwith 6.85-km water transmission lines will be laid.
