Blood donations
: At least 45 units of blood were collected at a training camp of 2 Punjab Air Squadron (NCC) here on Thursday. Dr Daljit Singh, Principal, Khalsa College, and Col G.P.S. Sawhney, were the guests of honour. Mr M.P. Galhotra, executive secretary, Red Cross Society, and Wing Commander K.S. Saini lauded the effort of cadets to collect blood for the needy.

Two thefts
: Unidentified miscreants reportedly stole 21 mobile phone sets and some cash from a general store, Jain Di Hatti, situated near the Old Grain Market here during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The miscreants reportedly broke into another shop, RK Electricals, near Bhojan Bhandar Chowk and took away some cash from the counter.

Uniforms given: The local Rotary Club distributed uniforms, shoes and socks among 60 students of the school being run at Rotary Bhavan for providing education facility to the children of slum dwellers here on Thursday, according to Dr Jagdish Walia, who presided over the function.

: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Kewal Krishan conferred “Ghazal Hero Award” on Parveen Kumar Ashk for his contribution to Urdu poetry here at a function organised by Funkar Sanstha. 

Office-bearers: The following have been elected office-bearers of the local unit of the Indian Medical Association for the year of 2006-2007: president — Dr Parvez Taneja; vice-president — Dr Vinay Sharma; general secretary — Dr A. Bhatia; joint secretaries — Dr Nancy Verma and Dr Rajinder Parshad; and treasurer — Dr Tarsem Singh.
