Youth “done to death” in city
Chandigarh, December 4
The police today found the badly bruised body of an unidentified youth from near the Sector 39 New Grain Market here. The body, which had injury marks on several parts allegedly inflicted with sharpedged weapons, including throat, neck and hands, was recovered from the bushes near the kutcha path leading from the Grain Market to Maloya village around 12.15 pm, police sources said.

Police remand for co-conspirator in
murder case

Panchkula, December 4
Man Bahadur, a co-conspirator in the sensational murder of a domestic help in the high security neighbourhood of Sector 6 yesterday, was produced before a local court and remanded to five days in police custody.

Gear up for a colder winter

December has begun on a chilly note this year and if the first week is any indication to go by, city residents should gear up for some very cold days ahead. Four awarded by Puadhi Punjabi Sath
Mohali, December 4
The Puadhi Punjabi Sath today awarded four personalities during its annual awards ceremony at Shivalik Public School here today. The Giani Ditt Singh Award was given to Sardara Singh, Editor of the magazine ‘Gurbani is Jag Mein Chanan’, while the Asa Ram Gayak Award was given to Rabbi Behronpuri, a veteran singer of the Puadhi Akhara tradition.

Minor arrested for stealing

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly arrested on the charges of stealing. Besides this, two incidents of thefts were reported to the police. The police arrested two persons from different parts of the city for allegedly carrying smack.

Car stolen in front of marriage venue
Mohali, December 4
Thieves decamped with the Pagero of Mr Sanjeev Bansal, Additional Advocate-General, Haryana, last night from outside the Dara studios here, when he had come to attend a wedding. Interestingly the car theft took place right under the nose of the Punjab police.

Stepmotherly treatment to “mother market”

Even as the mega shopping festival at the Sector 22-D Market drew to a close tonight, shopkeepers of the oldest market in the city have reacted sharply to the alleged “step-motherly” treatment meted out by the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh.

Amit Manga from Delhi clinched a double in The Fort Ramgarh Wheelchair Total Tennis’ Championship, which concluded today. In the singles, Amit Manga defeated Raajesh Ranal 6-3, 6-2, while in the doubles, Amit partnered veteran Pradeep Lal, an international wheelchair tennis player to defeat Jagdish Meena and Raajesh Ranal 8-1.

Vivek High School, Sector 38, on Friday held its annual athletic and sports meet on the school campus. The colourful giddha and bhangra entertained the audience.
