Indian kidnapped in Afghanistan
Kandahar, November 20
Taliban insurgents have kidnapped an Indian in southern Afghanistan, a spokesman for the militant group said today. A report quoting the Nimroz provincial Governor Ghulam Dasthaqir had said that suspected Taliban rebels had kidnapped an Indian driver, B.R. Kutty, with the Border Roads Organisation and three Afghans working on a road construction project between here and Herat.

MP’s arrest: bandh in Bengal
Kolkata, November 20
The Congress MP, Mr Adhir Chowdhury who was arrested yesterday from his New Delhi residence has been sent in a seven-day judicial custody. Mr Chowdhury was flown down to Kolkata last night from the Capital and produced before the special court at Behrampore.

Abu Salem admits links with cricketer: CBI
New Delhi, November 20
The interrogation of Abu Salem by the CBI has brought into focus the alleged links between a former Indian cricketer and the underworld, according to highly placed sources in the CBI. The sources said the gangster had confirmed that he knew the Indian cricketer.

Bomb scare in BSE: teacher held

A government school teacher from Jalgaon, 650 km from here, was arrested today for threatening to blow up the Bombay Stock Exchange shortly after the extradition of gangster Abu Salem to India.

Hi-tech gadgetary and help from the right quarters have helped the Chandigarh Police in tracing a high-profile kidnapper, who used a unique modus operandi to mislead the cops. On the afternoon of November 18, a gang of youths had kidnapped Nikhil Joshi, a college-going son of a leading car dealer of Chandigarh.
