17 killed as trains collide in Gujarat

April 21
At least 17 persons were killed and over 80 injured when the Ahmedabad-bound Sabarmati Express train rammed into a stationary goods train here, about 30 km from Vadodara, in the wee hours today.

Suspected BJP and Bajrang Dal activists today stoned Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav’s car and damaged it, for which he blamed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of trying to “eliminate” him.

The 226-member Hindu jatha from Pakistan led by Dr Shankar Lal arrived at the Attari railway station here today after a gap of eight years. The jatha, which included 40 women and 25 children, is here on a month’s visit to various cities and towns of historical and religious importance in India, including Shadani Darbar, Raipur.
