Govt establishes Hazrat Mian Mir Chair at GND varsity
Amritsar, November 25
The Punjab Government has established Hazrat Mian Mir Chair at Guru Nanak Dev University. Disclosing this, Dr S.P. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, said that the government would bear all the financial liabilities for the chair. He said that Prof Manjit Singh of the Guru Ram Das School of Planning had been appointed Chairman of the chair.

Makeshift toilets a nightmare for residents

About 60 makeshift toilets, set up in the Dasehra grounds in the middle of the Model Town locality for the use of delegates from various states who had come to participate in the three-day controversial “Aman Mela”, have proved to be a nightmare for residents.

A box which has proved to be boon
Patiala, November 25
An iron box, which seems to be the frame of an old cooler is proving to be worth its weight in gold for the poor of the city. The box, installed on the main Lehal road, has been providing them with clothes, watches and even spectacles since August this year.

SGPC members object to violation of maryada
Mohali, November 25
The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) member from Mohali, Mr Hardeep Singh, has objected to the conduct of a Sikh religious ceremonies in the vicinity of non-Sikh religious symbols terming them a violation of the maryada of Guru Granth Sahib.

Blast in milk plant, child hurt
Bathinda, November 25
Jagdeep Jaggi, a child labourer in the local Badal milk processing unit, situated in the thickly populated area, suffered severe burn injuries after an explosion took place in the unit this afternoon. The incident caused panic among the residents who ran helter skelter for safety.

Council takes lenient view in fake passes scam

One labourer was killed and another injured when they got buried in a deep well following collapse of one of its sides at Baloki village, about 35 km from here, today.

Supplementary challan filed against Kahlon
Ropar, November 25
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau today filed a supplementary challan in the special court against former Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Nirmal Singh Kahlon, then Chief Engineer Baldev Singh, Finance Commissioner J.S Kesar and two others in a case of corruption involving purchase of JCB machines worth crores of rupees.

Man killed by father-in-law, brother-in-law
Malout, November 25
In a bizarre incident, Kehar Singh, a resident of Birdana village in Fatehabad district of Haryana, was done to death allegedly by his father-in-law and brother-in-law on the night of November 23 in Dabwali Dhab village of this subdivision.

2 of marriage party die in mishap
Abohar, November 25
Two persons of a marriage party were killed and four injured, including the bridegroom, when their car collided with a canter here today.

Woman councillor held on fraud charge
Barnala, November 25
The police today arrested a woman councillor of the Nagar Panchayat, Handiaya, on the pretext of defrauding the general public. The court of Mr Jaspinder Singh sent her to judicial custody.
