The Police here has registered a case against the Principal of Spring Dale Public School Khanna on the charges of beating up a student of class VI here today. The boy suffered hearing loss and was admitted at the civil hospital Khanna.

Robbers carry away safe of Payal bank

Some unidentified robbers looted Rs 2 lakh from Ludhiana Cooperative Bank, Payal branch, on Wednesday night. The robbers also took away the safe of the bank weighing about 10 quintals.

Importers seek relief in clearance of scrap
Mandi Gobindgarh, October 28
Mr Ved Dewan, president of the North India Importers Association, Mandi Gobindgarh, stated in a press note here today that as per a Custom Department circular of October 18 the import and clearance of metal scrap in unshreded or loose form would be permitted at 15 custom stations, while in this region there is only one such clearance station i.e. ICD, Tuglakabad, New Delhi.

Labourer dies in scrap blast
Mandi Gobindgarh, October 28
One labourer was killed on the spot and other two were wounded in a blast while they were working at a scrap godown of Gurdev Overseas, Amloh Road here today. The deceased was identified as Jai Parkash Rajdhar of Balia district in Uttar Pardesh.

The legendary poet seemed to have a premonition of his fate in the city when he penned the lines “Kal koi mujh ko yaad kare, kyon koi mujh ko yaad kare, masroof zamana mere liye, kyon waqt apna barbaad kare”.

Germany invites AG to discuss issues
Ludhiana, October 28
The office of the Advocate-General, Punjab, has initiated a dialogue with the International Bar Association, the UK, the Supreme Court of Singapore and the Federal Court of Justice, Karlsruhe, in Germany, for initiating better understanding and collaborating on legal issues of mutual importance in the changed global scenario to develop a coordinated strategy to combat economic offences as well as cyber and other crime.

Work as usual in district courts

Despite the state government observing a holiday in connection with birthday of Maharshi Valmiki and the day also being a bank holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act, there was work as usual in the district courts here today, much to the resentment among court employees in general and those belonging to the Valmiki community in particular.
