Rates of commercial sites go up by 120 pc
Mohali, October 28
The Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority here has increased the cost of commercial sites in Mohali by 120 per cent. If the latest auction advertisement (published in The Tribune yesterday) of various commercial sites in the township is anything to go by, the reserve price of these sites have gone out of the reach of most people.

Safai staff allege harassment as garbage piles up
Mohali, October 28
Sanitation in certain parts of the town is in a state of neglect as safai sewaks, who lift garbage from houses, are being harassed by sanitation contractors. Mr Amrik Singh, Municipal Councillor, said residents had engaged safai sewaks to lift garbage from their houses on private basis.

Bir Devinder aides refute tenant’s claim
Mohali, October 28
Supporters of Mr Bir Devinder Singh today refuted allegations of house grabbing levelled by a resident of Phase II against the MLA. Addressing a press conference, Mr B.S. Baidwan, a close associate of the MLA, said Ms Suresh Kumari, who had filed a suit against Mr Bir Devinder Singh for allegedly grabbing the house she was living in, was misleading the court by giving contradictory statements to the press.

Abolish form No. 38, says chamber

Demanding an industry-friendly environment in the state, the Haryana Chamber of Commerce and Industry has demanded that the state government should abolish form number 38 which was putting the business community to inconvenience and leading to delay.

Man hurls stones at passers-by, held

People at the Kisan Bhavan chowk had to run for their lives when a man in his early thirties started hurling stones and bricks at them today. The situation was brought under control by the police, which caught the man.

16 tonnes of iron stolen
Chandigarh, October 28
Jai Chand of Sector 7-A has filed a complaint with the police that a gold chain and Rs 1,500 were stolen from his residence yesterday. A case under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC has been registered in the Sector 26 police station.

Lottery stalls raided, six arrested
Zirakpur, October 28
A team of the CIA staff from Patiala today raided lottery stalls being operated from near the Panchkula T-point and arrested six persons. The police recovered a sum of Rs 1,725 from them.

The Permanent Lok Adalat (public utility services) has dismissed the application of an automobile dealer, M/s Tai Pan Traders, with regard to the payment of Rs 1.89 lakh from a Ludhiana-based company.

Punjab Agro SI gets police remand
Mohali, October 28
The Punjab Agro Foodgrain Corporation Sub-Inspector Amrik Singh was arrested here yesterday by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. He was remanded in two-day police custody by a Kharar court this afternoon. A case of corruption has been registered against him.

Play on Bhagat Singh’s dreams

“Gagan Damama Bajyo”, documenting the philosophy and life of Bhagat Singh is an engrossing presentation. Director Rahul Joshi ‘s attempt to test Bhagat Singh’s philosophy on the rigours of time has yielded a good result. Written by Piyush Mishra, the play traces the relevance of Bhagat Singh’s ideology in present times. It was staged at Tagore Theatre on Thursday.

“Sibo in Supermarket” from October 30
Chandigarh, October 28
Neelam Mansingh Chowdhary’s company will present a bilingual play “Sibo In Supermarket” for six days at Rock Garden, starting from October 30.
Addressing mediapersons here today, Neelam Mansingh said when she considered a script, she had a number of ideas in the mind. She said out of a series of amorphous ideas, there was always one that would germinate and “that is the one she holds on to”. Telling about the theme of her plays she said that her plays emerge from her own desire to say a particular thing at a point of time.
