SCD college students assaulted
Ludhiana, October 26
Tension gripped SCD Govt College for Boys, near Rose Garden, today following an attack on a group of students by some outsiders. A group of youths brandishing swords and sticks attacked a group of college students who defended themselves by pelting bottles on the attackers. Only three of nearly 10-12 accused youths have been identified. They along with others were booked under Sections 148, 149 and 452 of the IPC.

Digital database on ex-servicemen on the anvil
Ludhiana, October 26
The Department of Defence Services Welfare, Punjab, has launched a special programme to prepare the digital database of ex-servicemen in the state, with a view to efficiently providing all facilities being given to them under different welfare schemes of the state government.

PAU staff hold rally over frozen demands

1,400 more poor families to be identified
Ludhiana, October 26
The district administration will identify 1,400 more families living below the poverty line to cover them under the expanded Antyodaya Anna Yojna (AAY). This was stated today by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma.

‘Kiss Kis Ko’ stars visit city
Ludhiana, October 26
The highly charged brigade of the “Band of Boys” were here in the city today to promote their Hindi film, “Kiss Kis Ko.” Claiming the debut film to be a "total family movie", the group members — Karan Oberoi, Siddhartha Haldipur, Shireen Verghese, Chaitanya Bhonsle and Aparna Kumar — were critical of vulgarity in Hindi songs and films.
"Shock value has assumed importance today which is why we get to see a large number of videos offering sheer vulgarity," said Karan Oberoi, adding that "this is a phase that will soon pass away".

Four of a family killed in accident
Khanna, October 26
Four members of a family were killed and three injured in an accident near Bija village last night. The injured were referred to a Ludhiana hospital. According to information, Vinod Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar, and his family were going to Hardwar when their Indica car (PB-8-AE-9933) rammed into a truck (PB-4-2683) near Bija village. Four persons, including a woman and a child, died on the spot.

Three snatching incidents in a span of two hours on Monday evening within two-km radius of the city have once again exposed the inefficiency of the local police. The city residents are fast losing faith in the police which insists on having details of servants and tenants rather than being more vigilant against the criminal elements.

Cattlefeed samples collected
Mandi Ahmedgarh, October 26
A team of scientists from the Dairy Development Corporation visited units manufacturing cattlefeed here and collected samples. Dr Devi Dass, Deputy Director of the corporation, said the team visited units manufacturing cattlefeed. Five samples were collected.

Couple murder case: police gets clues
Jagraon, October 26
The murder of Mohinder Singh (60), an ex-serviceman, and his wife Balwinder Kaur (55) in their house at Talwandi Bhaike village on the intervening night of October 17 and 18 remains unsolved though the police claims to have got some clues.

BVM athletes win seven gold
Ludhiana, October 26
The athletes of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Udham Singh Nagar, continued their domination adding seven gold medals besides silver and bronze medals to their kitty on the second day of the PAU Zone Inter-School Athletics Tournament being organised by the Punjab Education Department at the GGN Public School, Gobind Nagar, here today.

Police games conclude
Jagraon, October 26
The final of games at Police Lines, here which started on October 21 concluded here today. In the finals of 10-meter race C. Lakhwinder Singh of DPO, Jagraon, was declared first and C. Bhagwant Singh of DPO, Jagraon, was declared second.
