SGPC HONOURS DOCTOR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) honoured Dr Gurwinder Singh of orthopaedic department of Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research run by the SGPC with a “siropa” here on Monday. A press release said, Dr Gurwinder Singh was the only north Indian to get a fellowship for “Adult Joint Reconstruction” from Singapore.ORIENTATION PROGRAMME: A 28-day orientation programme for college teachers organised by the Academic Staff College, Guru Nanak Dev University, concluded here on Monday. Dr P.S. Kapur, a former Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Sonia’s sacrifice: Ms Malti Thapar, a former minister and member, All-India Congress Committee (AICC), said on Tuesday that with the installation of Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister, the Congress and its alliance partners had proved that they were ready to make any sacrifice for a secular, stable and efficient government. WATER, SEWERAGE FACILITY: The Punjab Social Welfare Minister, Joginder Singh Mann, announced here on Monday that the Punjab Government would spend Rs 900 crore for providing water and sewerage facility in urban areas of the state and Rs 1,500 crore for providing potable water in rural areas.
