Madhumani surrenders before CBI court

Lucknow, March 25
After staying elusive for about four months, former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi’s wife Madhumani Tripathi, an accused in the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case, today surrendered before a CBI court here which remanded her in 14 day’s judicial custody till April 14.

Accompanied by her lawyer, Madhumani arrived in the court of Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI, Digvijay Nath and surrendered.

The Magistrate rejected the CBI application seeking five days’ police custody of the accused and remanded her in judicial custody till April 14.

Madhumani’s lawyer had moved an application for her judicial custody.

She had gone missing from November 13 last year and a day later the CBI had served a notice asking her to appear before it for questioning.

A non-bailable warrant was issued against Madhumani by the court in January this year. She had moved an application in the court on March 22 seeking three weeks’ time to surrender.

A CBI application for the attachment of her property was to come up in the court on March 29. — PTI
