Tohra suffers massive heart attack

Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, president, Shiromani Akali Dal, today suffered a massive heart attack after the historic kar seva of the sarovar of the Golden Temple began here today.

He was taken to Escorts Hospital here after the heart attack. Doctors attending on him could not record his BP and pulse initially and he was immediately put on the life support system. Chief cardiac surgeon and cardiologist Harshbir Singh Pannu and H.P. Singh, respectively, who attended on Mr Tohra, said his condition was still not stable.

A team of heart specialists lead by Dr Naresh Trehan is likely to fly to Amritsar to personally monitor the condition of the Akali stalwart. He will decide whether Mr Tohra should be shifted to Delhi tomorrow.

According to Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta, SGPC, secretary, Mr Tohra had suffered the attack at around 2.30 pm after the “kar seva” and was immediately examined by a team of doctors, including Dr U.S. Dhaliwal and Dr Amrik Singh of the SGPC-run Guru Ram Dass Hospital, who advised that he be shifted to the Escorts Hospital. Mr Calcutta said while being shifted to Escorts Mr Tohra suffered another attack around 4 pm.
