India sets rider for troops to Iraq
To seek clarification from UN
New Delhi, May 26
The Vajpayee government today deftly dealt with the sensitive issue of sending troops to Iraq for assistance purposes as the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) handled the matter diplomatically and decided to obtain clarification from the United Nations and “the Authority” in Iraq on the “parameters and scope” of the UN Security Council Resolution 1483.

The Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal President and former SGPC chief, Mr Gurcharan Singh Tohra, was today admitted to a local hospital in a critical condition after he suffered a massive heart attack.

74 killed in plane crash
Trabzon, Turkey, May 26
A plane crashed in thick fog today in northwestern Turkey, killing all 62 Spanish soldiers and 12 crew members aboard. Local officials told Turkish broadcaster NTV there were no survivors and they were extracting bodies from the charred wreckage, near the Black Sea coastal city of Trabzon.

Thailand-based gangster Ijaz Lakdawala, a former aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and the mastermind behind the extortion racket in the metropolis, has been killed by members of the rival Chhota Shakeel gang in Bangkok, a top officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch-CID confirmed here this evening.
