Expelled Indian Charge d’ Affaires in Pakistan Sudhir Vyas, immediately on crossing the Radcliffe line into India through this only road link between the two countries, called for a change in Pakistan’s attitude and an end to cross-border terrorism to pave the way for bilateral civilised dialogue to resolve their outstanding problems.

While predicting that the days of the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, were numbered, the former Chief Minister and President of the SAD, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, alleged that “Raja” instead of working for the welfare of the people of the state was hell bent on spoiling relations of Punjab with Himachal Pradesh for his own vested interests by interfering in the Assembly elections there.

Software to track criminals

Alarmed over the dangerously increasing incidents of organised inter-state crime in the country, several state governments are contemplating to put in place a standardised nation-wide computer software to hasten the pace of information dissmination to track criminals.

Tripartite Bodo accord signed

A historic tripartite agreement was signed today between the Centre, the Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tigers clearing the decks for the creation of an autonomous self-governing body the Bodoland Territorial Council.

408 to vie for 68 HP seats
60 opt out of contest on last day of withdrawal

As many as 60 candidates opted out of the fray on the last day of withdrawals, leaving 408 contestants in the field for 68 Assembly constituencies in the state. In the last assembly elections 369 candidates had entered the arena.
