Tripartite Bodo accord signed

New Delhi, February 10
A historic tripartite agreement was signed today between the Centre, the Assam Government and the Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) clearing the decks for the creation of an autonomous self-governing body the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

The creation of the BTC will abolish the existing Bodoland Autonomous Council. The proposed BTC will cover a total of 3,082 villages administratively falling under four contiguous districts. The district reorganisation is expected to be completed within a period of six months. The Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) was signed today by Secretary (Border Management) in the Union Home Ministry R.C.A. Jain, Assam Chief Secretary P.K. Dutta and BLT Chairman Hagrama Basumatary.
