HVPN fined Rs 1,000 Fatehabad, May 16 The HVPN authorities had raided a saw mill belonging to Mr Bahadur Singh on the local Bighar road on July 20, last year, and registered a case of power theft against him. The HVPN authorities had opined that there was a difference in the size of the power meter and the glass covering the front of the meter. They charged the consumer with tempering with the meter and imposed a fine of Rs1.33 lakh on him. The HVPN authorities threatened the consumer that his connection would be disconnected in case he failed to pay the bill in time. As the consumer was going through bad times economically, he could not pay the fine and the power authorities disconnected his connection. Eventually, Bahadur Singh moved the District Consumer Forum when the power authorities did not care to reply to the legal notice sent by his lawyer. The forum found the action of the power authorities unjust and imposed a fine of Rs 1000 on the authorities. |

Sub Atar Singh said that his wife suddenly saw two militants had shot dead the sentry on duty and they were running towards her. She quickly entered the house but the two militants managed to gain entry close behind her. Then Mrs Nirmal Kaur rushed to the bathroom and locked herself in. The terrorists could not break open the door. The terrorists than fired indiscriminately at the two children sleeping in the adjacent rooms. The bodies of children were riddled with bullets. Although there is a steady stream of visitors to their residence, the villagers are upset over the fact that senior officers from the district administration were not present at the cremation this morning. “Even Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, who had come this morning to Ambala did not bother to come here to attend the cremation,” a villager lamented.

Dist chief parts ways with BKU Fatehabad, May 16 In a statement issued here today, Mr Mehtab Singh said at a meeting of the BKU held at Kandela (Jind), the union had appealed to the state government to extend the last date for the payment of the arrears. The BKU had also decided to meet at Kandela again on May 19 to chalk out its future course of action. The union leader said since Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala had agreed to extend the date for the payment of the arrears, there was no point of organising a meeting on May 19. JIND (UNI): About 2,500 residents of 100 villages assembled at Kandela village in the district on Wednesday and formed the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU). The meeting, after five-hour-long deliberations, adopted a resolution hailing the new policy of Power Utilities under which 75 per cent of the arrears of electricity bills were being waived of by paying 25 per cent of the amount. A member of the new BKU said a 21-member executive committee had been formed with Mr Ran Singh of Jeetgarh village as its president. The meeting also resolved that the new BKU would not allow the “so- called” Bhartiya Kisan Union, headed by Mr Ghasi Ram to organise the proposed rally at Kandela village on May 19. A deputation of the new BKU later met Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala to apprise him the grievances of the farmers. |

Make LS area equal to dist, says MLA Ambala, May 16 Mr Vij said not only would this help check the tendency of state to make more sub-divisions and mandals for political reasons, it will also improve the financial position of the state. “For the convenience of people, there should be an office of the DC and the MP in a district and in the sub-division, office should be provided to the SDM and the MLA,” he said. He said since the administrative officer and the elected representative would work within the same area, there would be better coordination. It would also help in implementing different programmes. He stated that this would bring about uniformity within the whole country. |
