Death penalty for woman, lover
Teheran, June 24
An Iranian woman has been sentenced to death by stoning and her cousin who was her lover to hang for adultery and murdering her husband in Teheran, the government daily Iran reported today. Both were also ordered to undergo 100 lashes each before their execution under Iran’s harsh Islamic law, the paper said without identifying them. If the woman manages to escape while being stoned — after being put in a pit up to her armpits — she will have to serve 15 years’ jail, the report added.

3 gunned down in Tripura
Agartala, June 24
National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) ultras today killed three persons, injured four and abducted three in West Tripura. The police said a gang of eight NLFT guerrillas attacked Barjala village under Bishalgarh police station at the wee hours and fired indiscriminately killing three non-tribesmen.
