Probe ordered into lathi charge
Dehra Dun, April 12
Uttaranchal DGP Ashok Kant Sharan has ordered a probe into the lathi charge on unemployed youths in which over 10 persons were injured. The DIG (Pauri Garhwal), Mr L.P. Mishra, would probe Tuesday’s incident. The move follows widespread condemnation of the lathi charge by the Uttaranchal Congress and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD). PTI

4 undertrials escape
Coimbatore, April 12
In a filmy-style operation, four undertrials escaped by throwing chilly powder on escorting policemen when they were being brought from a court at Udumalpet near here. Police sources said on Wednesday that when the police jeep carrying them stopped at a tea shop near an industrial estate, the prisoners threw chilly powder on the cops and fled. UNI
