faulty handset Aneesha Sareen Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, November 27 Maninder Singh, a resident of Mohali, purchased one XOLO Q800 mobile handset from Anmol Watches & Electronics (P) Limited Sector 22B, Chandigarh, on August 31, 2013, for Rs 10,600. After a few months of its purchase, the said mobile handset started giving display problem (line appeared on mobile screen), hanging problem, sensor issue and wallpaper auto fit issue. The handset was accordingly taken to the Service Centre in Sector 32. The handset was returned after 15 days, but in a damaged condition, due to which it was re-submitted. Thereafter, the service centre returned the handset to the complainant with recovered display, which also stopped working after two months and the same problem developed. The mobile handset was again taken to the service centre for repairs which retained the handset and asked the customer to collect the same after a week, but thereafter, lingered on the delivery of the handset, on one pretext or the other. Finally, the complainant issued a notice on July 15, 2014. When a notice was issued, nobody appeared on behalf of the opposite parties to contest the case and hence they were adjudged exparte. “Not providing proper services and not rectifying the defects in the mobile handset, despite various visits to the service centre even within the warranty period, certainly caused physical and mental harassment to the complainant, which proves deficiency in service on their part. The fault in the mobile handset within few months of its purchase clearly makes a pointer towards the poor quality of the product,” said the forum. “The complainant has been deprived of the possession of the handset for so many months. The complainant had spent Rs 10,600 for purchasing a brand new mobile handset to facilitate himself, but not for going to the service centre and then to this Forum for justice in the absence of proper service provided,” it added. |

Reports submitted by panel of doctors Deepankar Sharda Tribune News Service
Chandigarh, November 27 Recently, a few players with poor eyesight were inducted into the academy without even considering the medical reports properly. There are about four players (as per the documents with The Tribune), who had poor eyesight but were still inducted into the institute. Seeking anonymity, a coach said, “It was a lapse on the part of the administration. If the doctors’ reports hinted low vision then why were they inducted at the first place? Now that the players are a part of the academy, the authorities are asking us to give our opinion in this regard. What can we say on the matter? No one is ready to take the responsibility.” While revealing further, “In the past, a few players were declared unfit by the panel and so they were not inducted into the academies. Parents of those players are now complaining when they found out that the players with low vision have got place in the academy easily.” Meanwhile, some parents have legally challenged the medical procedure adopted for the induction of players into the academy. Following this step by the parents, the authorities and the panel of doctors decided to verify the player’s age on the basis of (+) or (-) 2 years from this year. Earlier, the panel of doctors used to declare players overage or underage for playing. “In the new method, the players get the benefit of doubt. The age provided by the players is supported by doctor’s report that indicates that he or she might be above (+) 2 years or below (-) 2 years than the age provided. In this particular case of low vision, the doctors have performed their part. But the induction or rejection of players is an administrative call of the UT Sports Department,” said a senior doctor of the panel. |
