Mayor rejects DC’s letter

City Mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan today rejected the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) letter in which he had sought the views of the MC House on holding the mayoral elections in December instead of January 1. Recently, local MP Kirron Kher had written to the UT Home Secretary to hold the mayoral elections before January 1. The Home Secretary had marked the letter to UT DC Mohammad
Shayin.
Soon, know status of driver's licence online
Chandigarh, November 26
Soon, vehicle owners will be able to see unallotted vanity numbers of different series online. They will also be able to know the status of their driver's licence at a click of the mouse. After getting clearance from the National Informatics Centre
(NIC), the UT Transport Department is all set to launch its user-friendly website.

Nehru Serai to be razed

In a setback to hundreds of patients at the PGI who cannot afford frequent travelling or charges of accommodation in the city, the institute’s apex decision- making body has approved demolition of Nehru
Serai. The PGI’s Governing Body is the highest decision-making body headed by Union Health Minister JP
Nadda. The Health Minister is also the president of the institute (PGIMER).

PGI opens second gate for exit of vehicles
Chandigarh, November 26
In a significant move, the second gate of the PGIMER facing Sector 11 has been connected directly with the road leading from the New OPD Block of the Institute for the exit of vehicles. Earlier, there was only one gate for entry and exit of the vehicles in the area.

Mohali MC demands 25 acres for dairies
Mohali, November 26
The Municipal Corporation here has demanded 25 acres for setting up dairies in a bid to shift all cattle out of the limits of the civic body.
At present, 3,218 heads of cattle have been kept in six villages falling within the jurisdiction of the corporation.
Hookah bars banned in Mohali district

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu has banned the functioning of hookah bars in the district
under Section 144 of the CrPc. The ban order will remain in force till January 28, 2015.

Federation opposes caste-based reservation

Members of the General Categories Welfare Federation, Punjab, staged a dharna here today against caste-based reservation. The protesters, who gathered at the Dasehra Ground in Phase VIII here, demanded the implementation of a circular of the Personnel Department of the Punjab Government regarding reservation.

PU fee isn’t that high!

Student parties are holding protests against the proposal for a 5 per cent fee hike at Panjab University and its regional centres for the session 2015-16. Since the time the announcement has been made, students are urging the authorities concerned to roll it back. The university, however, is offering courses at comparatively lesser fee than most varsities in the region.
Scholarship scheme for needy finds few takers

The Panjab University students’ party leaders, protesting against the proposed five per cent fee hike for the 2015-16 session, seem clueless about the number of students who have availed scholarship from the economically weaker sections
(EWS) fund till now. Surprisingly, as per a record from the Dean Student Welfare office, only four students have availed the scholarship under the special scheme in the current session so far.

Nursery admission process to begin from Dec 1

The common admissions schedule for nursery is scheduled to begin from December 1 onwards for all the local schools.
As per the schedule released by the education secretary, Sarvjit Singh, the admission forms will be available from December 1.
