I was never raped: Student
Chandigarh, November 26
A day after a 17-year-old girl accused her father of raping her, the victim retracted her statements today and stated before the Magistrate that she was never raped. The girl, who was brought to the District Courts by the UT police to get her statements recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC, said her father was an alcoholic and she only wanted that he should not beat them up.

The police have decided to cancel the case registered against the Class XI student’s father after she retracted her statements.

Mayor rejects DC’s letter
Chandigarh, November 26
City Mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan today rejected the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) letter in which he had sought the views of the MC House on holding the mayoral elections in December instead of January 1. Recently, local MP Kirron Kher had written to the UT Home Secretary to hold the mayoral elections before January 1. The Home Secretary had marked the letter to UT DC Mohammad Shayin.

Soon, know status of driver's licence online
Chandigarh, November 26
Soon, vehicle owners will be able to see unallotted vanity numbers of different series online. They will also be able to know the status of their driver's licence at a click of the mouse. After getting clearance from the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the UT Transport Department is all set to launch its user-friendly website.

Nehru Serai to be razed
Chandigarh, November 26
A view of Nehru Serai near the Dental Block of the PGI. In a setback to hundreds of patients at the PGI who cannot afford frequent travelling or charges of accommodation in the city, the institute’s apex decision- making body has approved demolition of Nehru Serai. The PGI’s Governing Body is the highest decision-making body headed by Union Health Minister JP Nadda. The Health Minister is also the president of the institute (PGIMER).

PGI opens second gate for exit of vehicles
Chandigarh, November 26
The second gate towards Sector 11 has been opened for the exit of vehicles at the PGI. This is being done to decongest Gate No. 1. In a significant move, the second gate of the PGIMER facing Sector 11 has been connected directly with the road leading from the New OPD Block of the Institute for the exit of vehicles. Earlier, there was only one gate for entry and exit of the vehicles in the area.

Mohali MC demands 25 acres for dairies
Mohali, November 26
The Municipal Corporation here has demanded 25 acres for setting up dairies in a bid to shift all cattle out of the limits of the civic body. At present, 3,218 heads of cattle have been kept in six villages falling within the jurisdiction of the corporation.

Hookah bars banned in Mohali district
Mohali, November 26
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu has banned the functioning of hookah bars in the district under Section 144 of the CrPc. The ban order will remain in force till January 28, 2015.

‘Google My Business’ app launched
Dignitaries during the launch of the Google app in Chandigarh on Wednesday Google on Wednesday announced the launch of a ‘Google My Business’ app in Chandigarh by enrolling five small medium businesses to succeed online. The new product designed to work across both desktop and mobile devices (tablets and smart phones) will help small medium businesses to create and update their business information on Google Search, Maps and Google+ from one place for free in both Hindi and English.

PU fee isn’t that high!

Student parties are holding protests against the proposal for a 5 per cent fee hike at Panjab University and its regional centres for the session 2015-16. Since the time the announcement has been made, students are urging the authorities concerned to roll it back. The university, however, is offering courses at comparatively lesser fee than most varsities in the region.

The Panjab University students’ party leaders, protesting against the proposed five per cent fee hike for the 2015-16 session, seem clueless about the number of students who have availed scholarship from the economically weaker sections (EWS) fund till now. Surprisingly, as per a record from the Dean Student Welfare office, only four students have availed the scholarship under the special scheme in the current session so far.

Nursery admission process to begin from Dec 1

The common admissions schedule for nursery is scheduled to begin from December 1 onwards for all the local schools. As per the schedule released by the education secretary, Sarvjit Singh, the admission forms will be available from December 1.

The Department of History, MCM DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, organised a workshop on ‘Safal yuva- Yuva bharat’ in collaboration with Vivekanand Foundation. Court acquits four in dacoity case
Chandigarh, November 26
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Shalini Singh Nagpal acquitted four persons, all resident of Ram Darbar, in a dacoity case. The victim in the case failed to identify the accused in the court leading to the acquittal.

Man acquitted in cheque bounce case
Chandigarh, November 26
Disposing of an appeal in a 10-year-old cheque bounce case, a local court today acquitted a 70-year-old man. The court acquitted Prem Singh while accepting the appeal in the case.

Murder at Sector 35
Accused sent to police custody
Chandigarh, November 26
The accused arrested for murder of an elderly woman at her Sector 35 residence were remanded in eight days police custody by a local court today. While the main accused Ram Chander Yadav was remanded for eight days, the other two, Davinder Yadav, alias Rahul Mukhiya, and Roshan were remanded in two days police custody.

Woman jumps before train, dies
Chandigarh, November 26
Jasveer Kaur (28), a resident of Mohali, committed suicide by jumping in front of the Kalka-Chandigarh passenger train near IT Park, Kishangarh. The woman was employed as a guest teacher at a government school in Sector 28, Chandigarh, and is survived by her husband and twin sons.

Man booked for rape 
Chandigarh, November 26
A 28-year-old woman has alleged that she was being raped by Pawan Kumar, a resident of Sector 40, on the pretext of getting married.

3 vehicles stolen
Chandigarh, November 26
Asif Altaf, a resident of Sector 12-A, Panckula, reported that someone had stolen his motorcycle from near the Tibetian Market, Housing Board crossing, Mani Majra, Chandigarh.

75% on-field attendance must for Panjab University sportspersons

The team of Punjab Panthers defeated Rajasthan Riders by 156 runs in the opening game of Youth Premier League (YPL), held at cricket stadium of Sector 16, here today. The team’s win was supported by a fine all-round performance by Bakshish Gill. He contributed 58 runs and also scalped five wickets. Batting first, the Punjab Panthers side posted 169 runs in 15 overs while chasing the target Rajasthan Riders bundled out on a mere total of 16 runs.
