Chandigarh, November 26 In a recently passed proposal by the syndicate, the admission under reserved category of Sports for MBA programmes, M.Com honours and in other teaching departments of Panjab University Campus or Panjab University Regional Centres, the Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, should take an undertaking from the students (applying under reserved category for sportsperson) that they would attend the practice session regularly and must possess 75 per cent attendance on field. In the approval, it is also recorded that the concerned chairperson will have to certified that the condition of 75 per cent on field attendance is met before issuing of roll numbers to the students, admitted under sports quota, on the basis of the attendance sent by the Directorate of Sports. “We have observed that sportspersons of certain games skip their regular practice session and sometimes also fail to represent the university in championships. The step is taken to spot the guilty ones to attend regular practice session,” said a senator. Earlier, the campus’ sports in-charge used to look after the attendance but from now onwards the directorate of sports will submit a written consent with the concerned department of a player. Earlier, the players were bound to attend only the practice session before their respective tournaments for a specific period of time. However, now the attendance is increased as a mandatory prerequisite. The players’ showed their satisfaction over the newly announced approval. “This is a good step to increase footfall on field. The players, who get admissions under the sports quota, should attend regular practice sessions and represent the institution. The step will also help to keep an eye on a player’s performance,” said Harit Sharma. Another player added, “It is a good step to supervise the players,” who were lenient with the attendance on ground. Now, the coaches will monitor a player’s performance and as well as their attendance,” said Akul Prabhari. |
