Five dismissed cops walk free
Chandigarh, November 11
In a ruling that comes as a major relief for five dismissed UT constables who were in judicial custody for the past 11 months after being booked in a rape case, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anshu Shukla today acquitted all five constables of the charges of rape, molestation and threatening a minor girl.

The Mohali police are close to cracking the gruesome killing of six-year-old Mehram Singh Sandhu, whose mutilated body was found buried in a dumping yard in Sector 69 on November 7. Highly placed sources claimed that the assailant(s) would be in the police net in a day or two. They said the probe had indicated that the murderer was not only familiar with the victim but was also known to his family members.

Heaving a sigh of relief after the orders of their acquittal were pronounced, the five UT constables who walked free today after a harrowing and humiliating time stated that they were happy that they finally got justice after spending almost 11 months behind the bars while they were innocent.

Five-year old daughter of Sunita, a mother of four and a resident of Mauli Complex, went missing earlier this year. Though the police have failed to trace the minor, yet Sunita is still living with a hope that one day Neha (her missing daughter) will be traced. As per the website of the Chandigarh Police 54 minors have gone missing this year and a majority of which are in the age group of 14 to 17 years.
