The duo was accused of misbehaving with officials who had come to demolish a structure raised by them. However, the defence counsel, Tarminder Singh, pleaded before the court that the High Court had ordered status quo on the structure and thus, the demolition drive was uncalled for. Moreover, the demolition officers, who were the complainants in the case, also failed to appear in the court for cross-examination, thus making their case weak, he said. As per the prosecution, the incident occurred on February 21, 2011, when officials of the UT Administration demolished an unauthorised structure raised by Bhajan Singh and his brother Kulwinder Singh Kala at Bhagwanpura village. It was alleged that they had erected the unauthorised structure on government land as demarcated by revenue officials on January 28, 2011. It was alleged that on seeing the government officials, the two started shouting abuses, used unparliamentary language against them and manhandled Executive Engineer Balwinder SIngh and Sub-Divisional Engineer Dharampal along with two others in public view. |
