Abohar
1 killed, 2 hurt in accident:
Dhaani Ahluwali resident Sham Sunder (37) was killed and his wife Bimla Devi (35) and son Karsh (5) were critically injured when a Santro car reportedly hit the motorcycle they were riding near Amarpura village, 8 km from Abohar, on the Hanumangarh road around 8 pm yesterday. Some members of the village's sports club, who came to the rescue of the victims, said the car dragged Sham Sunder to some distance. The mother-son duo have been referred to a Sriganganagar hospital.

Maneka visits dera:
Union Minister Maneka Gandhi has paid obeisance at the dera of Baba Ajit Singh Hansali Wale. She said she had come to seek Baba Ajit Singh's blessings as she had become a grandmother. Her son has been blessed with a daughter. She also visited the dera of Baba Ram Singh Ganduan Wale.

11 booked for assault: As many as 11 persons have been booked for allegedly attacking a couple and a member of the Ramdasia community in two separate cases. Jeet Singh of Sonti village alleged eight persons attacked him and his wife in his field over a land dispute. In another case, Gurjant Singh of Ramgarh village alleged four persons attacked him when he tried to stop them from committing theft. No arrests have been made so far. 

Tarn Taran
1 held with heroin:
The Bhikhiwind police have recovered 260 grams of heroin from the possession of Hardeep Singh of Bhakna Kalan village (Amritsar district). He was arrested from Sursing village. A case under Sections 21, 61, 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered against the accused. The police said the recovered consignment was worth Rs 1.30 crore in the international market.

Man run over by train: Gurdev Singh (32) was run over by a train at Sakhira village, 15 km from Tarn Taran, on Sunday evening. He was reportedly under the influence of liquor when the incident took place. The Government Railway Police have lodged a report under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was taken to the local Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Ambala
Mohali man dies in accident:
Gurmeet Singh (37), a resident of Mohali, was killed in when a truck hit his motorcycle on the Ambala-Hisar road near Ambala City on Sunday evening. Gurmeet was on the way to Mohali from Ambala City. The police sent the body to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination and informed their Mohali counterparts. 

Faridabad 
Youth booked for rape:
The police booked a youth on charges of raping and blackmailing a married woman here. The 26-year-old victim from the local Rajiv Colony was allegedly raped in a guest house at Sohna recently. She had gone there with the accused, identified as Yogesh, for some work. The victim said Yogesh started blackmailing her soon after the incident and threatened to make public a video he had shot of their sexual act. The police have registered a case under sections 376, 384 and 506 of the IPC against the accused, who is absconding. 

Hisar
5 of family die in mishap:
Five members of a family were killed and two others injured seriously as the car in which they were travelling rammed into a truck carrying cattle near Chikanwas village on the Hisar-Sirsa road on Sunday. The family, which hailed from Sirsa town, was going back after attending a religious function in Hisar today afternoon. 

ITBP jawan cremated : A pal of gloom descended on Chandana village of the district on Saturday when the body of Kapil Sharma, an ITBP jawan, reached his native village. Kapil was killed in Chhattisgarh on Diwali while picking a grenade that exploded in his hands. He later succumbed to his injuries. His body was brought to his village by an ITBP team. MLA Jai Parkash assured all possible help to the bereaved family.

Kaithal
Seven-year-old raped :
A 7-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Guliana village of the district on Saturday. The police have arrested the accused. On October 24, Manoj Kumar (22) took the victim to the fields at 1 pm and raped her. The girl later narrated the incident to her mother who lodged a complaint at Kithana village police post. Acting swiftly, the accused was arrested. In another incident, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from Shakti Nagar on Saturday. In charge of Anajmandi police post stated that police had registered a case.

Kullu
Trekker dies during expedition :
Manish (46) of Rajkot district in Gujarat was killed after falling into the Grahan Nullah during a trekking expedition in the Manikaran valley here yesterday. The police said the victim slipped during trekking and fell into the nullah. DSP Sanjay Sharma said the body had been handed over to the relatives after a postmortem and further investigation was being carried out. 

Legal camp held in village: Civil Judge, Manali, Sandeep Singh Sihag, who is also the Chairman of the Manali Sub-divisional Legal Services Committee, presided over a legal camp organised at Jagatsukh village near Manali on Saturday. Earlier, the Judge was welcomed by Jagatsukh gram panchayat president Jog Raj Rana. 

SHIMLA
Former VC of HPU LR Verma honoured:
Former Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) LR Verma was honoured for his contribution to the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme through apiculture by the Meghalaya Government recently. Professor Verma held the post of Vice-Chancellor of HPU from 2003 to 2006. From 1993 to 1999 he remained VC in the Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, in Solan. Earlier, Verma had also worked with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development Nepal from 1987 to 1993.
