GLADA shuts eyes to blatant violations of building bylaws

Attribute it to negligence or slack enforcement on the part of the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) but hundreds of allottees of residential plots, commercial sites or built-up properties have violated terms and conditions of allotment while at the same time carried out construction in violation of the building bylaws, without attracting any penal action from the authorities.
Engine ditches train to Asr

A major tragedy was averted as the coaches of a passenger train got separated from the engine shortly after departing from Ludhiana railway station in the evening. The railway guard alerted the engine driver who had proceeded to a distance of some 100

Dengue cases breach 100 mark at city hospitals

The number of patients diagnosed with dengue at city hospitals has crossed the 100 mark. A total of 107 patients have been diagnosed with dengue at the city hospitals, of whom 73 belong to Ludhiana, 29 to other districts and five are from other states.

Vows of green Diwali go up in smoke
Despite a yearlong campaign against the use of crackers, the sale of crackers in the city was higher than the sale last year. So was the deafening noise level on Diwali night. Although, data of air pollution caused by crackers and fireworks is not available yet, roads and streets littered with crackers’ waste on the morning after Diwali left no body in any doubt that vows of green and cracker-free Diwali had gone up in the smoke. Shall we ever learn, or never?

City-based litterateur Yashpal Bangia has come up with his sixth book on senior citizens.
Bangia, who retired from the Postal Department as a public relation officer, said: “I keep working on my book throughout the year, so that I may release it in the month of October on the occasion of Senior Citizen Day.”
