Vendors supply over 30 lakh litres of milk to the city daily Even as a major chunk of the city's population is dependent on loose milk supplied by over 3,000 milkmen every day, the Administration seems least concerned about the health of residents. Of the over 3,000 vendors, who supply nearly 30,00,000 litres of milk in the city daily, only 25 are registered with the UT food safety cell while the others have been conveniently giving all regulations the go-by.

CHB coming up with schemes for 1,700 flats
Chandigarh, October 16
After a gap of six years, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is coming up with two self-financing general housing schemes in the southern belt of the city. An exercise to identify land in Sectors 51 and 54 has already been carried out by the board.

Power bill set aside, costs imposed on PSPCL

A Jang-e-Azadi memorial will be set up at Kartarpur, near Jalandhar, at a cost of Rs 200 crore. This was stated by Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Sohan Singh Thandal at Chappar Chiri today. The minister, who had come to attend a function organised by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Board in connection with the 344th birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, told mediapersons that the foundation stone of the memorial would be laid on October 19 by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

10K take part in fest

High drama at Pizza Hut outlet

High drama was witnessed at an outlet of Pizza Hut in Sector 15 here this afternoon when a person raided the outlet posing as a food safety inspector. The UT Food Safety Cell received a phone call from the manager of the outlet complaining misbehaviour and within a few minutes, food inspectors and designated officers reached the outlet.

A seminar on “Enhancing Access to Library Resources – a Critical Discussion, Examination and Evaluation of Web-Scale Discovery Services” was organised by AC Joshi Library, PU, today. Two days after differences between the Bench and the Bar surfaced in a case involving former cricketer Yograj Singh, Justice K Kannan of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today refused to transfer the matter to another Bench.

DLF Homes fined for deficiency in service

The UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed DLF Homes Panchkula Private Limited, Sector 8-C, Chandigarh, through its director, sales and marketing, Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi, to pay Rs 20,000 compensation for deficiency in services, unfair trade practices and causing mental agony and harassment to the complainant.

Hearing deferred
Chandigarh, October 16
A court today deferred the hearing in a defamation case filed by two Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel following their arrest on the charge of possessing fake currency notes, which were actually genuine, to December 11. The UT police and the SBI had prayed for dismissal of the suit saying that no legal notice was served nor entire court fee was paid by the complainants while filing the case.

35-year-old booked for suicide bid
Chandigarh, October 16
The Chandigarh Police have booked a 35-year-old man for attempting suicide by setting himself on fire on Wednesday. Police sources said the accused has been identified as Ravinder Kumar, a resident of Sector 52. The accused is admitted at the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, and his condition is said to be stable.

3 booked for submitting false affidavits

In two cases of land fraud worth around Rs 22 lakh, the Kharar police booked three persons here. In the first case, the police have booked Ashwani Kumar and Munish Kumar on the complaint of a Chandigarh resident, Anil Kumar.

Mandeep KaurAsiad winner honoured

Punjab’s Mandeep Kaur, winner of 4x400 metres relay race at the Asian Games held in Incheon (South Korea), was honoured by Rahul Gandhi during his visit to the Panjab University campus here today.
Following dope offences, Mandeep bagged the gold medal, after returning from a two-year ban. Earlier, she had won gold medals twice in the Asian Games.
