Inter-school meet: Boxers Akshay, Arun log wins
Chandigarh: Boxer Akshay of Government Model Karsan School defeated Parshant of Government Model, Raipur Khurd, in a bout of (U-14) boys’ 38kg category during the Inter-School Boxing Championship at SD College in Sector 32 here today.In the same category, Arun of GHS-25, beat Bobby of GMHS, Mauli colony.
In the 42kg category, Yashdeep of Sharda Sarvhitkari School-40 beat Anmil of GMHS-37, while Gobind of GMS-37, beat Sachin of GMSSS-37. Also, Sameer of GHS-25, defeated Tarun Pal of St Joseph’s School-44.
Security guard sacked
Taking a serious note of the recent incident in which two girl inmates managed to flee from
Snehalaya, a shelter home for the destitute and abandoned children at
Maloya, the security guard has been terminated by the UT Social Welfare Department. On the basis of an inquiry conducted by the department, the action was taken against the security guard. UT Social Welfare Department director Tilak Raj said the number of security staff had been increased.

two-storeyed house was completely burnt and a cow perished in a fire at Parmas village in the Pangi tribal valley here on Monday. Officials at Killar rushed to the spot to carry out relief and rescue operations. They also disbursed the relief as per the manual of the government.

Labourer killed as
chimney falls: A migrant labour was killed on the spot and two others were injured when a brick kiln chimney, which was under-construction at Chudraid village in Dehra subdivision, collapsed here on Tuesday. Balvir Singh, investigating officer of Dehra, said the deceased was Masan Lal Mandal (25) and the injured labourers were Bishen Lal Mandal (30) and Umesh Kumar (20), all of Bihar.

Two POs held: The Karsog police arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) from the district on Tuesday. The police said Lala Ram of Bharmada village, and Narayan Singh of Lower Churasani village, were wanted in separate cases lodged under the NIA Act in 2011.

Srinagar passport office resumes work: The Regional Passport Office (RPO), Srinagar, which had to be closed after the floods, will start receiving applications from Wednesday. According to the passport officer, Srinagar, the functioning of the RPO has restarted and intending applicants would now be able to submit applications for fresh passports under normal category on all working days from October 15 between 9am and 11am. He said intending applicants were required to download and print the passport application form using the option "Print Application Form" under forms and affidavits available on the passport portal. Applicants also have the option of filling up the forms online, he added. DD to resume partial operations in Valley: Doordarshan Kendra, Srinagar, which was marooned due to the floods, will resume partial operations from its station here on Wednesday. CRPF holds medical camp: A free-of-cost medical camp was again organised by 54 Battalion of the CRPF at Nishat, New Theed (Harwan), in association with the SSB and an NGO as part of relief measures to the flood-affected people. A team of specialised doctors treated the people in the flood-affected area. "Nearly 600 people from New Theed, Dara and adjoining areas received free medicine and treatment from specialised doctors," a CRPF official said.
