A team of Food and Civil Supplies officers on Friday seized 89 bags of wheat from a private flour mill on Haripura Road in the Srivijaynagar segment of Sriganganagar district. Bhartiya Kisan Sangh sub-divisional president Subhash Bishnoi had informed the authorities that wheat meant for the Public Distribution System (PDS) had been siphoned off. BSF jawan falls from roof, dies:
BSF jawan Khaginder Singh reportedly slipped from the roof of his house in BSF Colony on the Sriganganagar-Bikaner highway on Thursday. He died due to a head injury. The body will be shifted to his native village Poonia in West Bengal.

3 bodies found on rly track: The bodies of three unidentified youths were found on a railway track here on Friday. Railway police in charge Kamlesh Kumar said the deceased appeared to be in their late twenties. Kamlesh said though it would be premature to ascertain the cause of the death, the circumstances indicated they were crushed under a train.

Sanitation drive: World Hand Washing Day, that is observed on October 15 every year, will now be a permanent part of the “Swachh Bharat” campaign that was launched on September 25 throughout the country. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has issued instructions to make the campaign a people’s movement to realise the
PM’s dream of a clean and hygienic India, said an official spokesperson. He said on
the World Hand Washing Day, a sanitation campaign would be started in the state.
HC: Tota Singh can go abroad:
The Punjab and Haryana High Court has allowed state Agriculture Minister Tota Singh to visit the US, Canada and England from October 1 to October 22 for a conference. The directions by Justice KC Puri came on a petition filed by Tota Singh against the State of Punjab and other respondents through counsel Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu. He told the court that the minister was to attend "Bioscience International Conference" abroad. The High Court in May this year had placed under suspension the one-year imprisonment sentence awarded to Tota Singh in a corruption case.

52 kg poppy husk seized
The Fazilka police have seized 52 kg of poppy husk from a Maruti car near Chack Kabarwla village of the district. The driver fled from the spot. The police said the poppy husk was being smuggled into Rajasthan. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.

2 booked in firing incident: Two persons were booked for allegedly firing at a man over a monetary dispute. One of the accused was the victim's brother. Shiv Kumar of Tibba Sahib Mohalla said when he had a scuffle with his brother Sanjeev Kumar at his ancestral village Rora, Sanjeev's accomplice Tejinder Singh shot at him. Life term for killing brother: District and Sessions Judge GS Bakshi on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment after holding him guilty of murdering his brother. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also slapped. The convict, Pritam Singh, had killed his younger brother Malkit Singh by hitting him on his head with a baseball stick.
