Investigating officer’s ‘style of working’ under scanner
Mohali, September 13 The Mohali police ASI, who is posted at the Phase VIII police station, is the investigating officer of the case that was registered under Sections 419, 468 and 120-B of the IPC against an unidentified person on November 29 last year. Presently, investigations are on in the case and statements of officials concerned are being recorded by the police. The working of ASI Rakesh Kumar came under the scanner when he was found taking a senior PSEB official to the residence of the board’s former chairman Dalbir Singh Dhillon to record the latter’s statement in the case. The senior official in question is said to be one of the suspects in the case. The ASI, reportedly, went to Dhillon’s residence at Patiala in the official’s car. Talking to Chandigarh Tribune, Dhillon said he felt odd when he saw the investigating officer arrive at his house accompanied by the board. “This is not the way to investigate the matter. Why was the ASI travelling with a board’s employee when the case has been registered against an unidentified person, who is obviously a board’s employee?” questioned Dhillon. Miffed over the development, PSEB secretary Gurinder Singh Batth made a complaint to Mohali SSP Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti against the ASI. “It’s ridiculous. With the ASI’s ‘style of working’ in the case, one can easily guess how the investigation in the case is going on,” said Batth. SSP Bhatti told Chandigarh Tribune that he was aware of the complaint against the ASI. “I have asked the board’s official to send a written complaint in this regard. I have already asked my staff to start investigating the complaint. If found guilty, ASI Rakesh Kumar will have to face the music,” said SSP Bhatti. The Punjab School Education Board authorities had found forged signatures of certain senior officials on the attendance registers of a meeting of the board’s regulation committee on December 3, 2007, and some other board meetings that had taken place on March 20, May 13 and August 6 in 2008. The members and officers in question were allegedly not present in the meetings. The forged signatures pointed to the accused incurring some benefit from the act of showing full quorum in those meetings.
