Abohar
4 killed in mishap:
Four persons were killed when their car collided head on with a loaded trailer on the Sriganganagar-Bikaner highway Monday morning. The police said the victims, Bharat and Mahabir of Pali and Sikander and Mahabir of Balotra, were travelling to Loonkaransar in their Chevrolet Beat car. The trailer turned turtle after the collision and its staff fled. The victims were declared brought dead at the Bikaner Hospital. A case has been registered.

Postman run over by train: Sukhwinder Singh (38), who worked at the post office in Raisinghnagar, Sriganganagar, was run over by a passenger train near Chak 11TK village on Sriganganagar-Suratgarh section on Monday.

Two boys drown in canal: Two boys drowned in the Gang canal near Chak 13LNP village in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan on Sunday. They two, who had jumped in the canal to take a dip, were swept away by strong currents. The victims were identified as Ajay Nayak (18) of Banwali and Amit Chawla (19) of Lalgarh. Divers recovered the body of Ajay on Monday.

Literacy day celebrated: International Literacy Day was celebrated here at DAV College of Education on Monday. Principal Dr Venita Singh said literacy had the potential to bring about sustainable development. A quiz contest was also held and several teachers participated in it.

Car hits bike, 2 killed:
Two persons were killed when their motorcycle was hit from the rear by a rashly driven car near Chunni town on the Chandigarh-Sirhind highway on Monday morning. The victims were identified as Amar Singh and Nirmal Singhj of Sampli village. The car driver managed to escape from the spot leaving behind his vehicle.

Painting competition
: New India Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, Panchkula, organised a painting competition on Energy Conservation-2014. Children of different categories participated in the competition. Students from Classes IV to VI were in Group ‘A’, while students from Classes VII to IX were in Group ‘B’. Around 220 students took part. The authorities said the best two paintings would be sent to the BBMB.

3 bikers killed in accident:
Three persons were killed in a accident on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway late Sunday night when a motorcycle they were riding hit a stationary car. The trio fell from the bike and were run over by speeding vehicles coming from behind. While two of them died on the spot, the third was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

KU non-teaching staff on strike:
Nearly 1,600 members of the Kurukshetra University Non-Teaching Employee Association (KUNTEA) went on an indefinite strike to press for their long-pending demands on Monday.They staged a protest and raised slogans against the KU administration.“The strike has been called on the call of All-Haryana Universities Employees Federation.

7 laptops stolen:
Thieves broke into a shop at BMK market near HIVE Hotel and decamped with seven laptops on Monday. The owner of the shop, Rohit, said he came to know about the theft incident this morning when he noticed that the lock of his shop was broken. Seven laptops worth Rs 1.5 lakh were missing from his shop.A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

National Public School director RS Pundir was felicitated with the CBSE sports promotion award in New Delhi on September 4. Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani presented the award to Pundir. CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi was also present on this occasion.
