Rain effect: Man killed as bathroom collapses

A 50-year-old person was killed after the roof of the bathroom at his house in the Maharaja Nagar area collapsed early morning today. The deceased has been identified as Bhuwneshwar Sharma, who was a security guard on the Punjab Agricultural University

Student hangs self from fan

A 24-year-old student, who was pursuing his MBA degree from Canada, allegedly committed suicide at his residence on Guru Nanak Street, Shimlapuri, here today. The deceased has been identified as Suraj, son of Inderjeet Singh, owner of Pal Bakery.

Intermittent showers and persistently cloudy weather on the second day of Mela Chhapar dissipated the traditional fervour at the rural fair.
Organisers of conferences of various political parties, who had been trying to mend the damaged and soaked tents since morning, eventually gave up and decided to wait for the rain to stop.

Hygiene on administration's priority list

Those visiting Mela Chhapar heaved a sigh of relief after the administration launched preventive measures to check the spread of pathogens through eatables. Owners and workers of all eateries have been advised to maintain hygiene. Officials of the health department disposed of eatables and drinks unfit for consumption.

Even after two days of the murder of notorious gangster Kala Hawas, the city police failed to arrest any of the accused in this regard. Yesterday, the police have booked the alleged rival gang leader, Rajwinder Singh alias Ravi Khawajeke, and Sandeep Singh alias Sunny on charges of murder and attempt to murder.

14 coolers checked
Under the directions of Subash Batta, Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, and under the supervision of Dr Anil Verma, district epidemiologist, Ludhiana, a team of 20 breeding checkers along with insect collectors and multipurpose health supervisors checked the coolers of different areas for breeding of Aedes aegypti (larva of dengue). Larva was found in 14 coolers in Dugri and in two coolers in the Model Town Extension area. The information regarding the same has been passed to MC officials.
