Khanna police crack youth’s murder case
Khanna, August 13
The Khanna police claimed to have arrested two youths in connection with a murder of a youth of a nearby village who was allegedly murdered by his two friends. The reason behind the murder was allegedly illicit relations with a village woman. The youths were said to be drug addicts.
Dept to survey TDS collection
Ludhiana, August 13
Establishments, which deduct income tax from the salaries of their employees at source, should be ready for surveys by teams of the department. It has been observed that employers deduct tax at source but do not deposit it with the Income Tax Department. Amendments allowing the I-T teams to carry surveys on TDS will come into effect from October 1, 2014.

The police nabbed a person and recovered 35gm of opium from his possession near the court complex here. The accused has been identified as Data Ram, a resident of Fathegarh Sahib.

New GMT Public school, Haibowal Kalan, celebrated Janamashtmi on the school premises. The students were dressed up in colourful attire. PAU releases seven
new varieties for general cultivation

The Punjab Agricultural University
(PAU) has released seven new varieties for general cultivation in Punjab. These include WH 1105 and PBW 660 of wheat, PMH 9 of maize, PBR 357 of
raya, PBG 7 of desi gram, OL 10 of oats and GSC 7 of gobhi sarson. All the varieties were approved during a meeting of the State Variety Approval Committee, held under the chairmanship of Dr Mangal Singh
Sandhu, director of agriculture, Punjab, at PAU.

Blood donation camp
A blood donation camp is being organised by the girls cadets of NCC at the NCC Academy,
Malout. The camp is being conducted in association with the Red Cross Society,

Research workshop ends at farm varsity

A two-day Research and Extension Specialists’ Workshop for Rabi Crops concluded at the Punjab Agricultural University
(PAU), today.

Despite High Court’s instructions, no action has been taken against owners of the buildings, responsible for illegal change of land use for vested interests.
Although both the major departments, Municipal Corporation and Ludhiana Improvement Trust have made it clear that they will remove the violations in the schemes, which are under them, but in the absence of an action by the civic body, the defaulters continue to have a field day.

Khanna residents express resentment
Khanna, August 13
Several residents of ward No. 4 of Nandi colony area of Khanna staged a protest for not providing the civic amenities.
The residents alleged that from the last three decades they were living in hell-like situation as there was no proper drinking water, no sewerage and no arrangements for the proper exit of the standing water from the streets of the area. They alleged that despite repeated requests to the authorities concerned the matter remained unsolved.

Camera, mobile phone snatched at gunpoint

In a dramatic incident, an unidentified person allegedly snatched an expensive camera from an employee of a Jagraon-based photography studio at gunpoint. The incident took place near Kothe Khajura village located on the outskirts of Jagraon today afternoon. The accused also forcibly took away the mobile phone of the employee of the studio before fleeing on a two-wheeler.
One arrested with 24 bottles of illicit liquor

The Jagraon police have arrested one person and recovered 24 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Paramjit Singh, a resident of Aawan
Mohalla, Jagraon. The illicit liquor was seized by a police team led by Adda Raikot police chowki in charge ASI Amarjit Singh near Kothe Rahlan village located on the outskirts of Jagraon yesterday evening during routine checking.
