UT Admn turns down Kirron’s plea for red beacon
Chandigarh, August 12
The Chandigarh Administration has turned down local MP Kirron Kher’s request for a red beacon and a hooter.
Last month, Kirron had written to the UT Deputy Commissioner, seeking a red beacon and a hooter for her vehicle. The office of the Deputy Commissioner had forwarded the case to the UT traffic police for permission.

Rain showers misery on P’kula

Several parts of Panchkula, got submerged in a downpour lasting just one-and-a-half hour, here today. Not just houses and vehicles of the residents in various sectors but even the ‘planned’ basement of General Hospital building in Sector 6 were found inundated. Stocks of medicines, general store manned by a pharmacist and the medical records department all in the basement were found inundated this morning.

No relief from humid weather in city

Student commits suicide

A 20 year-old student allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan at his residence in Mani Majra today. The incident came to light when the sister of the deceased, noticed his body hanging from the ceiling fan.
Businessman goes missing
Chandigarh, August 12
A 39-year-old businessman residing in Sector 38 (West) went missing this morning. While the family suspects he was under some pressure, the police have begun investigating chain of events, following which he went missing. The businessman, Lakhwinder Singh, went to the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 43 in the morning and parked his car at the parking lot.
