Abohar
2 held for murder:
Samna alias Shambhu (32), who had allegedly killed his ex-lover Shalu (30) in Gobind Nagari, has been arrested. The police claimed to have seized an illicit .315 bore revolver from him. Another police team nabbed Mahabir (30), who had killed his wife Suman (27) on August 5 at his house in Shergarh village. He had killed her because she refused to have sex with him.

Man gets life term: A special court in Sriganganagar, 40 km from here, on Thursday sentenced Pradeep Kumar of local Indira Colony to life imprisonment for abetment to suicide. His wife Sunaiyna was found hanging at her in-laws' house on July 10, 2012. Victim's father Joginder of Hisar had alleged that his daughter had been complaining of harassment over insufficient dowry.

NGO's Rakhi gesture:
The Advanced Paediatric Centre of the PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Sahayta Cancer Sehyog tied rakhis to children undergoing treatment for cancer. Volunteers of the NGO and PGI doctors spent the day with children. A spirit of gaiety and hope filled the atmosphere. The children were given gifts and refreshments. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal lauded the initiative. He said it was crucial in the war against cancer.

Bus to Lahore diverted
:
The route of Sada-e-Sarhad bus that plies between Delhi and Lahore was diverted from Khanna due to some traffic problems at Ludhiana on Friday. The bus reached Khanna around 11 am, but instead of going to Ludhiana it was diverted towards Jalandhar via Samrala, Machiwara, Rahon and Nawanshahr. Khanna SSP Harsh Kumar Bansal said it was done due to some traffic problem at Ludhiana.

Two booked for firing:
Resham Singh and his brother Malkiat Singh, residents of Rasulpur village, 6 km from here, have been booked for firing at Bagicha Singh of Gill Waraich village. Bagicha Singh, in his complaint, alleged that the accused forcibly entered his house and opened fire at him.

BJP sankalp yatras:
BJP national president Amit Shah will flag off four ‘vijay sakalp yatras’ on August 14. State BJP president Ram Bilas Sharma will lead the yatra from Mahendragarh. Kisan Morcha president Om Prakash Dhankar will lead the yatra from Bhiwani while Leader of Legislative Party in Vidhan Sabha Anil Vij will lead the yatra from Kalka. National spokesman Abhimanyu will lead the yatra from Sirsa. 

Govt to give lab assts dues for 20 months: The Haryana Directorate of School Education has decided to release the dues of lab assistants deployed in ICT labs for 20 months from September 2012 to April 2014. It had earlier decided to release dues for six months from September 2012. Director, Secondary Education, Vivek Atray said out pending salary dues for six months (September 2012-February 2013) had already been released. The dues for 14 months (March 2013-April 2014) will be released in five installments.

Rape accused slits throat:
A rape accused today attempted to commit suicide in a  local court by slitting his throat with a blade. He is under treatment at the PGIMS, Rohtak, and his condition is said to be critical.

Guv visits Murthal varsity:
Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki on Friday asked the administrative and academic staff of DCR University of Science and Technology, Murthal, to match the pace of quality education in the interest of students. “Shaping the bright career of students is the moral duty of teachers,” he said. This was his first visit to the university as University’s Chancellor. R P Dahiya, Vice-Chancellor, listed the activities of the university.

Gujjar lays stone of flyover: Union Minister of State for Surface Transport Krishan Pal Gujjar today laid the foundation stone of a flyover at Bahalgarh Chowk on the GT Road here and an underbridge near Rasoi village. Both projects are estimated to be completed in two years at a cost of ~80 crore.

Man mowed down by train :
A man was killed after he was mowed down by a train near Pattan in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, the police said here on Friday. Mohammad Akbar Mir, 55, a resident of Nihalpora village of Pattan was mowed down by a train at Hanjiwara, resulting in his instant death, a police spokesperson said.
