F&CC clears 110 agenda items
Ludhiana, August 4
This is perhaps for the
first time that another meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee
has been called on Thursday to clear all the agenda items, which are to
be taken to the General House. At today’s meeting, 110 items were
cleared by the members of committee.
Panel to probe undertrial’s death
Ludhiana, August 4
An 18-year-old undertrial, who was facing murder charges, died of some ailment at the Civil Hospital today. He was lodged at the Borstal jail.
The deceased has been identified as Sahil. He was suffering from suspected typhoid.
Woman falls victim to ‘free-ride’ gang
Ludhiana, August 4
The notorious “free-ride” gang struck again in the city yesterday. The two women of the gang offered a ride to an elderly woman and stole her gold bangles worth lakhs of rupees.
Two cops held for gambling
Jagraon, August 4
The Jagraon police have booked seven persons for allegedly indulging in gambling. Of them, two are police personnel. The police have seized Rs 35,000.

Loose electricity wires jutting out of poles, hanging power cables, mangled webs of wires in the old city area are ubiquitous. These are there for all to see, but curiously, these seem to escape the attention of the authorities.
The absence of alacrity by the authorities in fixing these is astonishing. These can sting and kill any time, the moment these become loose or naked.
Navpreet Singh Bedi, a social worker, said: “A number of people have lost their lives after coming in contact with loose power cables, but the authorities are yet to swing into action.

Parking contractors overcharge visitors
Ludhiana, August 4
Parking contractors in the city are making hay. They are fleecing visitors. Still the authorities are not acting against them.
In the absence of any check, the attendants overcharge visitors. Attendants at a parking lot in the interior part of the city near Books Market, Chaura Bazaar, demand anything from the visitors.

Water samples fit for consumption, claims Health Department
Ludhiana, August 4
The Health Department may have put the blame on the Municipal Corporation for water contamination in
Jawaddi, but the Municipal Corporation has made it clear that the water samples taken by department were fit for consumption. More than 300 cases of diarrhoea and cholera were reported from the area recently.

Protesting against yesterday’s incident wherein ETT teachers were cane-charged at Amritsar, the ETT Adhyapak Union burnt an effigy of the state government here today.

Woman’s decomposed body found
Malaudh, August 4
A decomposed body of a married woman was found under mysterious circumstances from the Lasara drain between Uksi and Moranwali villages near here last evening.
The police suspect her body could have been carried to the area in some vehicle and dumped in the drain passing through the area.
11 bags of poppy husk recovered in Jagraon

The police have recovered eleven bags of poppy husk from the fields of a farmer at Talwandi Khurd village, near Jagraon. The bags were recovered today afternoon, during a search operation carried out by a police team following a tip-off.
7 gram of heroin seized

The Hathur Police have claimed to have arrested three persons and have seized 7-gram of heroin from their possession.
