Cong activists protest:
Congress activists protested outside the office of Powercom today. They resented the imposition of unscheduled power cuts. They staged a two-hour dharna and raised slogans against the Punjab Government. The workers said a number of industrial units had shut down due to the erratic power supply, adding that farmers were forced to buy diesel to sow paddy.

Students flay Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras Bill
: The Sikh Student Federation (Mehta) held a protest rally today against the Haryana Vidhan Sabha’s action of passing the Haryana Sikh Gurdwaras (Management) Bill, 2014, that paved way for setting up of a separate Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee for Haryana. The leaders later presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner that was addressed to the Prime Minister.

Memorandum submitted: The Punjab Colonisers and Property Dealer Association today submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner. Kultar Singh Jogi, president of the association, said in September 2013, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal had assured them of solving their problems. He had stated that a plot’s layout, affidavit and per acre fee would be required to get an NOC. “We are made to deposit property tax. The single window system has not been started yet. Our projects have been stalled,” he said.

Child falls into bucket, dies:
One-and-a-half-year Ajtesh died due to drowning in a water bucket kept to collect the waste water dripping from an air-conditioner at a house in new Model Town on Sunday evening. The child probably fell into the bucket while playing. He was taken to the DMC Hospital by his father Chander Sharma where he was declared "brought dead".

Ropar
Murder case: DGP moves HC:Director-General of Police (HRD) SK Sharma has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the murder charges framed against him by a Ropar court. In his application, the DGP has stated that he is not named in the FIR. The Ropar court was to record evidence in the case on Monday.

Kaithal
Two beaten to death in Kaithal
: Two persons were done to death in separate incidents at Rohera and Devigarh villages of the district last night. Mehtab of Rohera alleged that his brother Pardeep was assaulted after being forcibly pulled inside a house by some men and women last night. He was seriously wounded was taken to a hospital in Kaithal where he died. The police have booked some villagers for murder. One of the accused, Mahipal, had lodged a complaint with the police a few days ago alleging that Pardeep had tried to molest his wife. In another case, Geeta (50), a daily wage earner of Devigarh village, was allegedly clubbed to death by her nephew after an altercation last night. Mangal hit the victim on the head with a lathi and fled the scene. The police took the injured woman to a hospital, where she died.

Kin murder jeweller over old enmity:
Surenderpal, 40, a jeweller by profession, was killed while his brother Sushil and cousin Vajir Chander were injured in an attack carried out by their relatives, over some old enmity. The police registered an FIR against Kasturi Lal, his brother Sonu of Basant Nagar Purewal Colony and two others at the Model Town police station on the statement of Sushil Kumar. According to Sushil, the accused attacked them with sharp-edged weapons at Kachcha Camp Gurunanakpura. The accused managed to flee from the spot after attacking the trio.

Protesters booked for beating up GRP ASI: A day after violent protests at the Panipat railway station to arrest the accused involved in farmer Gajendra Rathee’s suicide case, several Manana villagers were booked for beating up a GRP ASI and blocking rail traffic by sitting on the track.

SONEPAT
Road blocked over jammed sewers
: Residents of localities near the local Sabji Mandi today blocked the mandi road for about two hours in protest against the overflowing of sewer lines in the area. The blockade was lifted after Sube Singh, Subdivisional Engineer of the WSS Department, said that the cleaning work would be started tonight.

Nurpur
Biker held with poppy husk:
A police team, led by the Damtal police chowki in charge, intercepted a motorcyclist (HP-38 A- 7816) and recovered 1.250 kg poppy husk from him at Damtal here on Saturday evening. He was arrested on the spot. DSP Manoj Joshi said the accused was identified as Labh Singh of Nurpur. A case under the NDPS Act had been registered against him.
