Solid waste mgmt authority:
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has approved a proposal to establish a solid waste management authority to ensure efficient disposal of waste in urban areas. The Deputy CM, at a meeting on Friday, asked the Local Bodies Department to formulate a "Mission 100 Days" plan to complete the ongoing works.

Institute for disabled: The state government has offered 10 acres of land near Zirakpur to the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment on 33 years lease for setting up the National Institute for Disabled. The annual lease money will be Rs 1 per acre.

Varsity students protest:
The Democratic Students' Organisation held a protest against Punjabi University's decision to increase fee for different courses available on the university campus and in its affiliated colleges. The protesters burnt effigies of the university management and the Punjab Government. They raised slogans demanding authorities to roll back the fee hike.

Allowance for ANMs
: Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday announced mother and child care allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to the Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) of the Health Department. He also enhanced the uniform allowance of the ANMs from Rs 550 to Rs 900.

Chair in Kairon’s name: Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday approved the setting up of a Chair in the name of former Chief Minister of Joint Punjab, Pratap Singh Kairon, at Ch. Charan Singh, Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar.

Varsity gets new VC:
Neelam P Kasni, Secretary to Governor of Haryana and Commissioner, Ambala Division, on Friday took over the charge of Vice-Chancellor of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, Khanpur-Kalan. During a meeting with university’s officers, the Vice-Chancellor said her administrative priorities would include facilitating admission process for the academic session 2014-2015 and toning up the administrative set-up of the varsity.

A 25-year-old woman has been found dead at a house in Sonawar area here, the police said today. Kavita, 25, wife of Vinod Kumar of Pathankot, was living as a tenant in Sonawar.
